Tom Parlon: The Office of Public Works is in the negotiation phase on the acquisition of a suitable site in Kanturk. The indicative timeframe for the completion of the construction of the new building in Kanturk is towards the end of 2008. There are 84 applications on the central applications facility, CAF, in respect of the 88 posts scheduled on CAF for Kanturk.

Tom Parlon: The maintenance works on the channel in question, which forms part of the Coonagh embankment, were largely completed by the Office of Public Works in November 2005. The remaining works will be completed in April 2006.

Tom Parlon: The property in question appears to be vested in the Minister for Finance under the State Property Act 1954. The Commissioners of Public Works will recommend to the Minister to waive his interest in the property on receipt of the appropriate application from the local authority.

Tom Parlon: I thank the Senators who have contributed to this debate. They have shown great interest in decentralisation and I am very heartened by the high degree of support therefor. I found it amusing â the amusement is wearing off at this stage â that there was a contradiction between Senator John Paul Phelan and some of his colleagues, who were extremely supportive of the programme.

Tom Parlon: There has been much hypocrisy. Although the Senators claim they are in favour of decentralisation, they are nitpicking. Senator John Paul Phelan asked selective questions and suggested that only one in nine people is prepared to move.
