- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Job Losses (24 Sep 2025)
- Joanne Collins: I thank the Minister of State. This is great that it has not yet been announced to the Department but I have seen the internal emails to the staff. It is very important that the families of those who may be made redundant are looked after. However, if it does come to pass and 200 jobs are lost, I plead that the businesses in the area also be taken into account because of the loss of traffic...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (24 Sep 2025)
- Joanne Collins: Today I want to raise an issue that happened last July. A town in County Limerick had severe rainfall within a very short space of time and flooding occurred. The local residents and businesses had been raising the potential for flooding for three or four years with the council and through their local TDs' offices. I do not know whether it fell on deaf ears or was just put on the long...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Nitrates Derogation: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (24 Sep 2025)
- Joanne Collins: I have one very quick question. I thank the witnesses very much for being here and for giving up their time. Mr. Callanan said that this has to be decided by 31 December. Is there a chance that it is going to be extended or are farmers going to have a situation come 1 January where this could be completely pulled until everything is put together, if that falls after 31 December?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Nitrates Derogation: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (24 Sep 2025)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Nitrates Derogation: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (24 Sep 2025)
- Joanne Collins: Okay. I thank Mr. Callanan. I just wanted to check for the farmers if there was going to be a possibility come 1 January that it was not in place, and we are pushing to make sure. It is great that we are all heading towards and have the same goals, which is amazing. It is just that we will have those farmers who are going to be waiting for the news and the stress it will cause waiting...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Nitrates Derogation: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (24 Sep 2025)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Impact of Trade Deals on Agriculture: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (24 Sep 2025)
- Joanne Collins: I thank the officials for giving of their time to be here. We have gone around the floor and these questions have probably been asked and answered already, but I will try to ask them in a different format to make it more interesting. I am going to touch on the standards side of this, which has been asked about plenty of times. Our farmers pride themselves on the standard of our beef. We...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (23 Sep 2025)
- Joanne Collins: I echo what we have heard in welcoming Martin Hughes to his new role. Congratulations to him. I also thank Bridget Doody, who always had a welcoming smile on her face to put us at ease when we walked in. I hope she enjoys her retirement. Today I will speak about how our legal aid system can sometimes overlook victims of domestic violence. We must recognise the serious gap that exists...
- Seanad: Migration: Statements (23 Sep 2025)
- Joanne Collins: I thank the Minister of State for being here this evening for what is a very important debate in this House. It is not spoken about very often and some might be afraid to speak about it, but it does need to be debated and we need to set the record straight on what is actually happening here in our wonderful country. At the moment, communities across Ireland are at breaking point. The...
- Seanad: Sport: Statements (16 Jul 2025)
- Joanne Collins: I welcome the Minister of State to the Chamber. I wish to discuss sport in the sense that it is not just elite sport we need to talk about, it is all sport. I wish to discuss one sport in particular, which is swimming. I spoke about this a couple of weeks ago here in the Seanad. Swimming as a sport is not just competitive. A swimming service has young and old people as beginners. It is...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Ash Dieback and Other Forestry Issues: Discussion (16 Jul 2025)
- Joanne Collins: I welcome the Minister of State and the officials. I will begin with ash dieback, which is something I have spoken about quite a bit in the Seanad. I have met many groups, one of which is the Limerick and Tipperary Woodland Owners. I am very happy that two of its members are in the Gallery to observe what is happening today. Ash dieback is a massive issue. What percentage of landowners...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Ash Dieback and Other Forestry Issues: Discussion (16 Jul 2025)
- Joanne Collins: Perfect.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Ash Dieback and Other Forestry Issues: Discussion (16 Jul 2025)
- Joanne Collins: Perfect. My next question is on the grant. Is the grant paid upfront or do people have to have the trees planted a certain number of years before they get the final payment?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Ash Dieback and Other Forestry Issues: Discussion (16 Jul 2025)
- Joanne Collins: People have to pay upfront for the work to be done. They have lost all their trees and all the profit they would have got from them, and then they have to pay to get the forestry cleared and replanted. It is at that point they get their grant.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food: Ash Dieback and Other Forestry Issues: Discussion (16 Jul 2025)
