Michael Creed: A total of 27,447 farmers applied for the Areas of Natural Constraint Scheme with land designated as 'mountain land' under the Scheme. The average amount of mountain lands held per applicant is 22.37 hectares, which is below the national average farm size of 32 hectare.  However, these applicants may also hold other categories of land.
