Seanad: National Forestry Fund: Motion (8 Feb 2023)

Eugene Murphy: I will not welcome the Minister of State to the Chamber because she is part of it. My colleague Senator Paul Daly has led on this today. He said we will not be opposing this motion. I compliment Senator Boyhan on bringing forward what is really a crucial issue and a crucial debate. Discussions like this are very important. Forestry is going to be important as we go forward....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: General Scheme of the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System Bill: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Feb 2023)

Eugene Murphy: I acknowledge the presence of the witnesses. Ms Thornton had an engagement with me some time back and I picked up a lot from that, which I appreciate. I am sorry for returning to something that has probably been addressed already and I will keep it short due to the pressure of time. I was listening in my office and, as far as I can recall, Deputy Kerrane spoke about cost-of-living...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: General Scheme of the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System Bill: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Feb 2023)

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (2 Feb 2023)

Eugene Murphy: I fully support Senator Clonan and will support the idea of a debate on carers and people who look after those who are vulnerable. That is important. In the context of all that has been revealed in recent times, we need to have a debate. While I understand people might have issues relating to migrants and developing centres, I absolutely deplore and abhor violence and people who are trying...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (1 Feb 2023)

Eugene Murphy: I wish the Cathaoirleach, the Leader, the staff and everyone here a very happy St. Brigid's Day. I believe this day is going to become a very important one on the calendar and, it is fair to say, that St. Patrick will not have it his own way from here on in, and will have a little competition. I support the Order of Business as outlined by the Leader. I refer to a big ongoing debate on...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays Affecting Car Tests and Driver Tests: Discussion (1 Feb 2023)

Eugene Murphy: I will make a brief point because it has been made over and over again. I have tried to watch part of the debate and I thank the witnesses for their attendance. I will go back to the point about issuing licences. I am talking about category C licences for trucks and lorries in particular. Businesses are expanding and have jobs for workers and are waiting four or five months for a driving...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays Affecting Car Tests and Driver Tests: Discussion (1 Feb 2023)

Eugene Murphy: There is someone talking about four months. One case has been sorted out now, one case has not and I hope it will be done in the next week or two. However I want to make the genuine that it is very frustrating for a small business. This person worked on the floor of this factory, he was going to go driving on the road and the firm then had to put him to one side for three months as there...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays Affecting Car Tests and Driver Tests: Discussion (1 Feb 2023)

Eugene Murphy: On that point, to be honest, we have had cases involving front-line workers where the RSA has been very good when we explained the cases to it over recent years. However in some of those cases, particularly for driving trucks or lorries, it is affecting businesses and they are frustrated with that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Delays Affecting Car Tests and Driver Tests: Discussion (1 Feb 2023)

Seanad: Emergency Department Waiting Times and Hospital Admissions: Statements (Resumed) (26 Jan 2023)

I welcome the fact the Minister has been to the House on four or five occasions. I also welcome the fact that the Ministers of State at the Department come to the House. In the past there was a very poor record, particularly of...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Jan 2023)

Eugene Murphy: I wish to briefly return to the issue of mental health and the report on the child and adolescent mental health services, CAMHS, situation, which came out earlier this week. I know that many politicians - including the Tánaiste and the Minister of State with responsibility for this area, Deputy Butler, who I think we will accept has done enormous work in this area – have...
