Imelda Munster: The Minister is pulling it out.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)
Imelda Munster: Yes, but the Minister is removing it. He is removing public transport routes across the country and replacing them with private operators to which the NTA has given licences, knowing full well that they can withdraw those licences or amend them to lower frequency services. Meanwhile, the Minister is abandoning parts of rural Ireland and leaving them at the mercy of private operators who can...

- Questions on Promised Legislation (28 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: I wish to raise the issue of social and health care provision under the programme for Government, particularly in respect of respite services at St. John of God, Drumcar, County Louth, which now only accepts one wheelchair user at any given time. The reason given is that the service only has one hoist. This respite and residential service provider is in receipt of €130 million of...

- Written Answers — Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Arts Funding (28 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: 500. To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the reason County Louth, and Drogheda in particular, has been overlooked in the recent €9 million which has been allocated to 56 arts and culture centres around the country. [10316/17]
- Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government: Social and Affordable Housing Funding (23 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: 23. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government if he will provide funding for the roll-out of a social housing building programme on lands in County Louth in view of the fact that there are almost 54 acres of council owned land banks in County Louth, 20 acres of which are in Drogheda, and have lain idle for over a decade; when this will take place in view of the...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Drugs Payment Scheme Administration (23 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: 316. To ask the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to a policy change or a directive sent from the HSE to pharmacies advising that persons are to collect their medications on a weekly basis, rather than a monthly basis, despite the fact that most prescriptions are monthly; if pharmacies can charge for four dispensing fees a month under this scheme; and if he will make a...
- Industrial Relations (Right to Access) (Amendment) Bill 2016: Second Stage [Private Members] (22 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: It has been obvious for some years that the race to the bottom for Irish workers is in full swing but the Government continues to turn a blind eye to it. Workers' hard earned rights and conditions are under attack. We see it with Bus Éireann and Tesco workers, newly qualified teachers, workers in the hospitality sector and part-time workers, as well as with minimum wage and...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: The most telling aspect thus far this morning was the statement from the NTA about private operators where it said they were not obliged to continue a service if it is not commercially viable, that the licence can be withdrawn. Is that not what we have said all along? Is that not what we said was the difference between private operators and a public transport network? If we continue on the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: Could I propose, from the point of view of the Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport, that the NTA would carry out such a review?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: I apologise, I am not talking about private operators; I am talking about the public transport network.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: Perhaps I am not making myself clear or perhaps Ms Graham is misunderstanding me. I am talking about the licences that were issued through the NTA to take over from the public transport network. In certain cities there are three bus services - Bus Éireann and two private operators - leaving at the same time. There are three licences on that particular route. I am asking for a review...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: That is incredibly hard to believe. The NTA and Bus Éireann have been meeting regularly over the past months discussing this very crisis. How could the company define its financial crisis for 2014, 2015 and 2016 without giving a breakdown of the cause of its financial crisis? Did the NTA not ask what routes were loss-making and when those routes started to lose money?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Imelda Munster: We might have to go down the freedom of information route because it is incredible that there is such a reluctance to give a commitment to carry out a review. This has played a significant part in the development of this financial crisis in the first place. I have never witnessed anything like this.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation in Bus Éireann: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
