Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Roads Bill 2014: Committee Stage (5 Feb 2015)

Patrick O'Donovan: While I agree that it cannot be called the National Roads Authority, if it is going to have a function in respect of rail we should be careful in the context of branding and ensure that there is not some sort of elaborate scheme launched in order to come up with a name and a logo.

Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Roads Bill 2014: Committee Stage (5 Feb 2015)

Patrick O'Donovan: I thank the Minister for putting forward the amendment. I had a similar amendment drafted, but I appreciate the fact that it was not as detailed as what the Minister has come up with. This came out of the bizarre situation whereby the National Roads Authority would embark on the design and construction of a new road without knowing whether it was going to get planning permission for it....

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (5 Feb 2015)

Patrick O'Donovan: The last time we had the Higher Education Authority in here was only a fortnight ago. Its responses in relation to what it is doing with State money, and any degree of oversight it has in that regard, were appalling. This seems to be another example of that. I think this is an opportunity to have representatives of the authority in on their own to explain what they actually do, if that...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (5 Feb 2015)

Order of Business (3 Feb 2015)

Patrick O'Donovan: I refer to two related Bills, the first of which is the planning and development (No. 1) Bill to give effect to Construction 2020 and, I hope, deal specifically with third party objections from organisations such as An Taisce. I note that Second Stage of related legislation, the Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2014, has been ordered. When will this Bill be brought before the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Proposed Sale of Aer Lingus: Discussion (Resumed) (3 Feb 2015)

Patrick O'Donovan: I wish to revert to Ms Burke's commentary on how things stand now. I suppose we could go back seven or eight years to how this thing started in the first instance and how we were left with a 25.1% rather than 100% share, but we are where we are. As regards IBEC's position on this, has Ms Burke asked her membership in Limerick - which I represent, including Castletroy, Raheen, Newcastle...
