- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rural Taxis and Rural Transport Programme: Discussion (27 Feb 2019)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I live the reality of this and we need to create the type of service that exists in cities and urban areas whereby when someone needs the service, he or she can avail of it. For a bus service, everyone will have to go to the pub at 7 p.m. and leave at 11 p.m. because that is when the bus will run. What happens if a couple wants an early dinner sitting and to be home at 10 p.m. because they...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I welcome the NTA's representatives. As they know, I am concerned about a whole lot of rural issues. I have sent some emails and I hope I will get an answer to them soon. I will focus on the issues for discussion today. I will start with the first point. As I have pointed out time and again, when it comes to vehicle subsidies rural Ireland is totally discriminated against, counting per...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I apologise as we are getting a community service as well. I have views about that and I would love to see it operate up here. With the private service, that is two services serving from Ballinasloe to Ballyconneely. I do not know what world in which we are living. If I know anything about the NTA and the delays that exist, we will be lucky to see this by the end of the year.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Éamon Ó Cuív: We were to get a late-night bus service on the Carraroe route in September and it will soon be March and we have still not had an announcement on it. I have fair justification in that respect. That is just one scheduling of a bus after 6 p.m. and we have not got it after all that time. It is a fair summation. We can come back in the autumn to see who is right but I do not foresee this new...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Éamon Ó Cuív: I am very disappointed and this is the usual stuff. It comes back to one issue, which is an unwillingness to commit fair funds to rural Ireland. We are not looking for special treatment but rather equity in expenditure.
