Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (16 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: I was a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Health when the Committee of Public Accounts was looking at section 38 and section 39 organisations. We have a problem in the sense that over 2,500 organisations are getting funding from the HSE. I remember raising an issue relating to an organisation that I wanted to invite before the Oireachtas Committee on Health but we were advised that we...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (16 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: The point I was making is that over 2,500 organisations are getting funding from the HSE and the amount involved this year, for instance, is €4 billion. The Committee of Public Accounts at the time was focused on one organisation in particular which meant that the other 2,499 organisations could not be touched by the Joint Committee on Health, which was a problem. That should not...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (16 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: Some people are saying that we need a change in legislation. Why not look for advice on what changes are required? Then the committee would be in a position to approach all parties to tell them that it has received legal advice to the effect that there is a need for legislative change here and to push for that change, if that is what is required.

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (16 Dec 2020)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Roll-out of Covid-19 Vaccination: Discussion (16 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: I thank the witnesses for the work done over recent months. There are many more challenges in the months ahead. A few issues are coming up. The first relates to a certificate being issued to people who have received the vaccination. Can we get some clarification on that? Some people seem to be not in favour of this. The second concerns the records of people who have received the...

Colm Burke: What is the estimated figure for vaccinations by the end of April if we have the vaccine available on 1 January?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Roll-out of Covid-19 Vaccination: Discussion (16 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: If it will be mid-February for that cohort, what about healthcare workers? Will they be vaccinated by mid-February as well? I am not trying to tie Professor MacCraith to specific times. The process will start on 1 January, assuming the vaccine is available but obviously if it is not available until 15 January, then everything gets moved forward by 15 days. I am just wondering about the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Roll-out of Covid-19 Vaccination: Discussion (16 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: I wish to return to the issue of certification. Will a certificate be issued for every person who gets the vaccine? This needs to be clarified.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Technological Universities (15 Dec 2020)

He has already outlined to my colleague, Deputy Griffin, views on the areas in which technological universities will fit in the further and higher educational landscape, but will he make a statement on the matter?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Technological Universities (15 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: I thank the Minister. I also thank the people involved in ensuring this merger can go forward, and I very much welcome the work that the Minister and his Department have done over recent months and years in bringing this together. (10 Dec 2020)

Colm Burke: I apologise for being late. I was at the convention centre earlier because the Minister for Justice was before the Dáil. I am sorry for not being here for our guests' presentation. Are plans...
