Paul Coghlan: I welcome the Minister to the House and I commend him on this legislation. As the Minister stated, it is one of a suite of measures produced by the Government as part of a focused programme of political reforms, including changes to the legislation governing freedom of information and the protection of whistleblowers. The reforming zeal of the Minister is well accepted throughout the House....

Seanad: Regulation of Lobbying Bill 2014: Second Stage (29 Jan 2015)

Paul Coghlan: Forgive me. Perhaps this is an exclusion that the Minister has made deliberately and, if so, I imagine he will deal with it in his reply. I wish to raise a number of other matters but they will wait. I am sure I will have an opportunity again on Committee Stage and Report Stage to make some further points. I look forward to hearing the Minister's response.

Seanad: Possible Sale of Aer Lingus: Statements (28 Jan 2015)

Paul Coghlan: The Senator cannot tell the person in possession of the Chair that he or she is not in a position to do something. She can raise her matter with the Committee on Procedure and Privileges or on the next Order of Business. In meantime, I suggest she takes it up with her group leader.

Seanad: Possible Sale of Aer Lingus: Statements (28 Jan 2015)

Paul Coghlan: Senator White has no forum here. I am not brooking any interference. The Minister must be released from here at 2.55 p.m. so if the House is agreed, I will call upon the Minister to conclude. Is that agreed? Agreed. I am caught by the Order of Business.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Jan 2015)

Paul Coghlan: I agree with Senator Darragh O'Brien's condemnation of the disgraceful attack on the President. Michael D. Higgins is a most respected first citizen, he is doing an excellent jobs and is above politics. As Senator Wilson has said, he should be regarded by everybody in this democracy. Some dangerous forces are afoot so we must guard against democracy sliding into anarchy. This morning I...

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Jan 2015)

Paul Coghlan: -----through tourism and all other activities. I join in the earnest request that this House would in due course debate the issue. I accept that the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Donohoe, and the Cabinet will give careful consideration to the matter. They are duty bound to consider the recommendation of the board of Aer Lingus itself. I am sure that the market rules...

Seanad: Order of Business (27 Jan 2015)

Paul Coghlan: I believe Senator Darragh O'Brien made very valid points on the remaining 25% stake the State holds in Aer Lingus. Despite the offers from IAG, International Airlines Group, incorporating British Airways and Iberia, I do not believe it is an attractive offer. We must remember we are not joined by land or a tunnel to any other landmass. The State has no shareholding in the ferry companies...

Seanad: Order of Business (21 Jan 2015)

Paul Coghlan: I agreed yesterday with Senator Darragh O'Brien regarding the proposed 20% deposit requirement, which is over the top in my view. I suggested that it should be reduced to 15% at least. The more important figure is the limit of 3.5 times the combined salaries. This morning I agree with Senator Bacik and Senator Hayden on the matter and in particular I join Senator Bacik in asking the Leader...
