Chapter 18 - Health Service Executive Funding and Financial Reporting (1 Feb 2024) John Brady: I mentioned the closure of inpatient beds in Linn Dara in Cherry Orchard. That is a huge setback in the provision of CAMHS. When will that unit be reopened? What is the cause of the serious shortage of beds in the system? I think there are 54 beds overall in the service, which is a fraction of what is required. There is a major crisis there. When will that unit be reopened?

Chapter 18 - Health Service Executive Funding and Financial Reporting (1 Feb 2024) John Brady: I refer back to a previous conversation with my colleague, when Mr. Walsh stated there is a roadmap to address some of the issues. Is there a similar roadmap to fill a critical service that is really at crisis point? At this stage I am not very optimistic, from his response, that we will see those beds open any time soon.
- International Court of Justice and Genocide in Gaza: Motion [Private Members] (30 Jan 2024)
John Brady: As we sit here this evening, more than 26,750 Palestinians have already been killed in Gaza. A further 65,636 have been wounded since 7 October. Some 2 million Palestinians are displaced, with thousands more missing, many buried under rubble. On average, Israel is killing 250 Palestinians per day in Gaza. This represents a higher daily rate than any other 21st century armed conflict....
- Services for those Seeking Protection in Ireland: Statements (30 Jan 2024)
John Brady: Of course, each IP application must be assessed individually and the applicant may be judged on their particular circumstances. There were eight safe countries and now it is proposed that there be ten. Sinn Féin supports this. Other countries have more safe countries and different countries on their safe lists. That needs to be looked at. There are also systems that have partial...

- Services for those Seeking Protection in Ireland: Statements (30 Jan 2024)
John Brady: Before I begin, I want to draw attention to the absence of the Minister, Deputy O'Gorman, who has the responsibility for the Government's response to the co-ordination of immigration. His absence from the debate this afternoon sums up the Government's approach and handling of this entire situation. This debate is-----
- Services for those Seeking Protection in Ireland: Statements (30 Jan 2024)
John Brady: In fairness, the Minister and Minister of State are the ones who set the time for this debate, which is necessitated by a crisis brought about by the Government's complete mismanagement of the entire issue. The erosion of State services over many decades has pushed communities right to breaking point. It is a situation compounded by the failure of the Government to engage directly with...

- Children and Family Relationships (Amendment) Bill 2023: Second Stage [Private Members] (25 Jan 2024)
John Brady: I thank the Labour Party and Deputy Bacik for bringing this important legislation. I also thank the advocacy groups for all their work on the issue. A number of them are in the Gallery this evening to listen to this very important debate and I welcome them. Sinn Féin will be supporting this critical legislation. As has already been outlined, the Bill works to address current gaps...

I welcome the Supreme Court judgment of last year, which I describe as a landmark decision on the issue. I will ask Mr. Cody a "Yes" or "No" question. Does he agree that it is a landmark decision on the issue of bogus self-employment?

Chapter 22 - Corporation Tax Losses (25 Jan 2024) John Brady: Has Revenue ever tried to ascertain a figure as to how much is lost to the State on an annual basis? Figures have been put out there. For example, over an eight-year period ICTU estimated a loss of €640 million in the construction sector alone. We know bogus self-employment is not just prevalent within the construction sector, it is in the media, as we saw with RTÉ. I will...
