- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Oct 2018)
Terry Leyden: My brother Jimmy and another few were the builders. The point I am making is that there is not that approach now to building houses. We are now entering into an agreement for the possibly next year, at least.
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Oct 2018)
Terry Leyden: I want to make a very important and significant point. There should be a national housing bond of approximately €3 billion. People have money saved in banks at 0.2% interest. If one got a 20 year loan from people like that at even 2%, one would raise an enormous amount of money that could be spent on housing and solve this problem once and for all. I do not have any approval from...

- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Oct 2018)
Terry Leyden: The Leader should remember he might be congratulating the Senator when she is housing Minister.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: I second the amendment to the Order of Business proposed by Senator Horkan in respect of the transfer of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Commission to the council and the consequences of that decision. Yesterday, the IFA had a briefing for Members of the Oireachtas at which it put forward a very strong case for support in the forthcoming budget. I ask the Leader to bring the Minister for...
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: I thank the Leader very much.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: As the seconder of the amendment, I support its withdrawal. I take this opportunity to welcome the members of a delegation from Strokestown, who are guests of Deputy Eugene Murphy, namely, Brother John and Mrs. Murphy. I hope they have a very nice day in Leinster House.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: General Affairs Council: Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (26 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: I welcome the Minister of State and her team, as well as the people in the Gallery. With regard to the informal meeting in Salzburg, it is disappointing in a sense that there was a certain isolation imposed on British Prime Minister Theresa May. It is important that we keep close contact with the United Kingdom during these negotiations. I accept we are one of the 27 countries but there...
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: I refer to the 2018 report of the European Parliament Constituency Committee. As the Leader is aware, there is a proposal to increase the number of seats for Ireland from 11 to 13. However, if one looks at the map, the obvious place to increase the number of Members, with respect to the Clerk, would be the Midlands-North-West constituency. It has four seats currently but the Members...
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: The Midlands-North West constituency, comprising the area from Louth to Donegal, which adjoins the Border with Monaghan, Cavan and into Leitrim. It would be appropriate that the members elected from that constituency would represent the best interests of the people of Northern Ireland also of all denominations and none. The committee, with respect, should have taken that into account but it...
- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: I join in the congratulations to the 883 Tidy Towns committees the length and breadth of the country. It is appropriate that we mention them in the Seanad because they do Trojan work. Our colleague Senator Ned O'Sullivan was a founder member of the Tidy Towns committee in Listowel, a town which received 339 marks. That said, my village of Castlecoote received 337, which is very good. It...
- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: Our premises were also commended, which is rather nice. I commend the committee. I will not mention names, but Keadue received 336 marks; Ballintubber, 327; and Clontuskert, 325. They all performed very well. Westport again scored very well, while Portrunny received an endeavour award medal. We should praise the dedication of the people involved. Roscommon town received 326 marks. Our...

Terry Leyden: I can confirm that.
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Sep 2018)

- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: I must spread my wings too and welcome David Maxwell, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, to the Chamber and wish him well if he decides to run for the Seanad, provided he is not on the Labour Panel. I congratulate our colleague, Senator Joan Freeman, on being nominated to contest the Presidential election. It is a great achievement for her. I wish our present President, Michael D....
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: It is never too late to learn. The other people, who have been funded by the €160 licence fee, are Sean Gallagher, Gavin Duffy and Peter Casey. I do not know how we managed without them. I cannot figure that out. The last guy we funded was George Lee and he did not last too long. He was funded by RTÉ. I wonder how we will manage without "Dragons' Den".
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: It is a programme-----
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Sep 2018)
Terry Leyden: The Senator should relax. He is being provocative. He has a chance to respond.
