- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: I have a number of questions, though the witness has just answered one of them. With regard to the Road Traffic Act, I wanted to ask if Dr. Bedford has any statistics thus far or even a progress report on the new legislation on drug testing. He has just stated, however, that it is too early to say.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: I am also curious as to what kind of relationship the witness has with the Garda in his role as chairman designate of the Medical Bureau of Road Safety, particularly with regard to road safety figures and breath testing. What is his opinion on the recent breath test episode?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: Okay.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: I was just curious about the relationship, given the breath testing scandal.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: Was Dr. Bedford shocked by the figures?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: Does it undermine the work of the witness's own organisation, for example, or that or of the Road Safety Authority in getting the message across to people of the importance of not drinking and driving? Given the scandal around the figures-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Drogheda Port Company: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: I thank Dr. Hiney for his report. I have a number of questions. Many locals in Drogheda have expressed a concern about the fact that Drogheda Port has the docklands site up for sale for €1.5 million. They are concerned about how secure the future is for Drogheda Port. Could Dr. Hiney give a brief outline of that? There were also questions asked about the moneys from the sale....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Drogheda Port Company: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: Yes.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Drogheda Port Company: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: Dr. Hiney is probably aware of a bone of contention with Drogheda folk which is the car parking. The port operates the car parking system on the north quay. Are there any plans to hand that section of car parking over to the local authority in order to regularise the car parking regime in Drogheda? It has always been a bone of contention. Are there plans to do that?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Drogheda Port Company: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: Dr. Hiney said that part of the paid parking was to keep up the maintenance of the roads but if truth be told, and I am not directing this comment at Dr. Hiney personally, it is quite the opposite. The north quay and the north strand have been allowed by the port to fall into a desperate state of disrepair. Has Dr. Hiney any plans to clean up the area given we have the fleadh next year?...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Drogheda Port Company: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: I can understand that. I accept Dr. Hiney stated he wants to do it but to date he has not given a commitment or been proactive in carrying out maintenance given the state of disrepair that the port is in, despite it being raised on numerous occasions. I would have hoped he would have given some commitment at this stage regarding the area directly adjacent. He knows the reasons the area has...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Drogheda Port Company: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Imelda Munster: That is fair enough. I thank Dr. Hiney. The port and the council went 50:50 on the cost of the jetty on the Boyne, which was €155,000. I wish to raise an issue that could possibly be incorporated into the consultation process. I refer to the promotion of ecotourism along the Boyne in conjunction with Louth County Council. I do not say Drogheda Port must go the whole hog on it by...
