Seanad: Gender Recognition Bill 2014: Committee Stage (3 Feb 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Point taken.

Seanad: Gender Recognition Bill 2014: Committee Stage (3 Feb 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Amendments Nos. 2, 8, 15 to 18, inclusive, and 22 to 24, inclusive, are related and may be discussed together. Is that agreed? Agreed.

Seanad: Gender Recognition Bill 2014: Committee Stage (3 Feb 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: I do not wish to interrupt the Senator but the amendment deals primarily with a review and the issue the Senator is raising with regard to divorce may be more appropriate at a later stage. I have allowed her some latitude.

Seanad: Gender Recognition Bill 2014: Committee Stage (3 Feb 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: I will allow the Senator in again.

Seanad: Order of Business (3 Feb 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Maybe it shot down the hen harrier.

Seanad: Order of Business (3 Feb 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Senator Coghlan made a very powerful case about the loss of the hen harrier. Not to be flippant, but I agree with him on our nomadic breeds of Kerry birds and Kerry people, as during Seanad election campaigns he can be found in very quare places and is well able to make his way around. I wish to raise the issue of problems with medical cards and the fact there is no cross-checking between...

Seanad: Order of Business (29 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: I rise to ask the Leader for a debate as soon as possible on the future of Cork Airport.

Seanad: Order of Business (29 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: I am deeply concerned about the deterioration of Cork Airport over the past number of years. During the previous Seanad from 2007 to 2011 the former Senator, Jerry Buttimer, who is now a Deputy, raised this issue on, at least, a monthly basis. The airport has deteriorated rapidly since then. When travelling to Dublin in 2007, 2008 and 2009 I had the option of flying to Dublin Airport with...

Denis O'Donovan: Is the amendment being pressed?

Seanad: Central Bank (Amendment) Bill 2014: Committee and Remaining Stages (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Amendments Nos. 5 and 6 have been ruled out of order.

Seanad: Central Bank (Amendment) Bill 2014: Second Stage (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: When is it proposed to take Committee Stage?

Seanad: Central Bank (Amendment) Bill 2014: Second Stage (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: That error will be changed. I call Senator Wilson who has eight minutes.

Seanad: Appointments to State Boards: Statements (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: We have had little interruption so far. In fairness to the Senator, she has just six minutes.

Seanad: Appointments to State Boards: Statements (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: It does not matter whether she is being interrupted by the Minister or by another Senator. The Minister will have time to respond as well.

Seanad: Appointments to State Boards: Statements (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: The clock is ticking. Senator Reilly should be given a chance.

Seanad: Appointments to State Boards: Statements (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Every cloud has a silver lining.

Seanad: Appointments to State Boards: Statements (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Senator Sheahan, without interruption.

Seanad: Appointments to State Boards: Statements (22 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Senator Sheahan, without interruption.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Report on Crime Investigation 2014: Garda Inspectorate (14 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: Following up on the question of the PULSE system and the inadequacies and so on, I would see the PULSE system, in one sense, as the bible or foundation stone of the Garda Síochána. Arising from that, will the witnesses comment on a problem we seem to have in Ireland for some time, namely, the amount of crime committed by people out on bail? How can the PULSE system track this?...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Report on Crime Investigation 2014: Garda Inspectorate (14 Jan 2015)

Denis O'Donovan: If there is a lack of interaction, perhaps the witnesses will comment on it because it is a serious issue. If there is a lack of co-ordination perhaps there should be co-ordination. If someone has committed a crime and is left out on bail, that person should be tracked by PULSE or by someone.
