- Seanad: Garda Síochána Bill 2004 [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil]: Report Stage. (28 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: It was introduced on Report Stage when it should have been introduced well beforehand.
- Seanad: Garda Síochána Bill 2004 [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil]: Report Stage. (28 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: I agree with Senator Ryan. The groupings should be right at this stage. The Senator has already informed the officials that they are wrong. All the information in front of us should be correct before we begin to debate the Bill. As the Senator stated, it would be difficult enough to deal with the groupings as they stand, without the added difficulty of having amendments grouped wrongly. Let...
- Seanad: Garda Síochána Bill 2004 [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil]: Report Stage. (28 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: We are very disappointed that legislation of this nature was rushed through the other House in the absence of debate on many amendments. It is undoubted that all of the last minute amendments introduced on Report Stage in the other House should have been introduced on Committee Stage, a point that was made time and again but not accepted. All the amendments, including those that were not...

- Seanad: Investment Funds, Companies and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2005 [Seanad Bill amended by Dáil]: Report and Final Stages. (28 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: We supported this Bill from its inception. The amendments in question relate to the EU directive on market abuse and prospectus provisions. We tabled some amendments and the Minister of State mentioned there were some inaccuracies that were amended in the Dáil. We consider those amendments strengthen the Bill and we fully support the amendments as outlined.
- Seanad: Investment Funds, Companies and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2005 [Seanad Bill amended by Dáil]: Report and Final Stages. (28 Jun 2005)

- Seanad: Investment Funds, Companies and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill 2005: Motion for Earlier Signature. (28 Jun 2005)

- Seanad: Registration of Deeds and Title Bill 2004: Report and Final Stages. (28 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: The amendments tabled make common sense in regard to making progress on compulsory registration. My party supported the Bill from its inception and it supports the amendments tabled by the Minister in this regard. The whole area of land reform, which I spoke about on Second Stage, requires radical proposals to be implemented and this legislation is only the first step in the process. We...
- Seanad: Registration of Deeds and Title Bill 2004: Report and Final Stages. (28 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: We welcome this legislation. The complexity of land law and its reform is known to everybody involved in the system. This Bill will speed the process in some areas. E-conveyancing will eventually come about. The Minister was correct to mention Professor Wylie. He attended a sub-committee of the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights and is an authority in the area....
- Seanad: Inspector of Prisons Reports: Motion. (22 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: The pigeons will bring them.
- Seanad: Inspector of Prisons Reports: Motion. (22 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I commend the motion and congratulate Senator Henry on putting it to the House this evening. It would be better if the Government were to put its hands up and accept it as recommendations have been made but not acted on. Instead, the Government side has moved an amendment to the motion to support proposals of the Minister for Justice, Equality and...

Maurice Cummins: It is not sufficient to appoint an inspectorate unless there is a willingness to act on its recommendations.
- Seanad: Offences against the State (Amendment) Act 1998: Motion. (16 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. Fine Gael supports the motion, as it always has since 1998. As the Minister of State said, the amending legislation was introduced in September of that year in the aftermath of the horrific Omagh bombing, the worst single incident in more than 30 years of violence. It was a particular shock, coming within months of the signing of the Good Friday...

- Seanad: Morris Tribunal Reports: Motion. (15 Jun 2005)
Maurice Cummins: I join in the condolences offered to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law reform, and his wife, on their family bereavement. I compliment Mr. Justice Morris on the frankness and straight talking in both of his reports to date. It is refreshing that his recommendations are clear and concise and should provide any willing Government the opportunity to address the many concerns outlined....
