Thomas Pringle: The people in question have met all of the conditions outlined by the Minister in regard to the required number of contributions, including the fact their farming income was below €12.70 per day. The only reason they were refused jobseeker's benefit was because the local office identifies them as self-employed farmers. It is for that reason they were refused access to jobseeker's...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Jobseeker's Benefit Eligibility (17 Nov 2015)

Thomas Pringle: I welcome that guidance and I hope it gets out to all the local offices. However, the situation remains that people are being identified within local offices as self-employed farmers, which automatically implies they have no entitlement to the jobseeker's benefit. Therefore, because they have been classified as...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: EID Tagging: Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (10 Nov 2015)

Thomas Pringle: I thank the gentlemen for their presentations. The system seems very good and feasible. This has been in place for sheep since 2010, therefore any of the problems that are likely to arise have probably arisen with sheep anyway. There is concern about increased infections because of the tags but I imagine that there is the same likelihood of infection with an ordinary tag. Is there...

Thomas Pringle: I thank the gentlemen for their presentation. I did not realise the extent of harness racing across the world until I read the presentation today and listened to the witnesses. It is very interesting. When one considers that France and Australia support the development of harness racing in Ireland but the Irish Government does not, it conveys a damning picture regarding the powers-that-be...
