Covid-19 (Foreign Affairs and Trade): Statements (3 Jun 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: We are back into Brexit deadlines. We have the withdrawal agreement, the Irish protocol and the difficulty with the June deadline, which will be followed up by the 31 December deadline. I think the belief is out there that the British Government is not willing to extend. An awful lot of the supports we had for businesses have now been repurposed for Brexit. While that was right, what are...

Covid-19 (Foreign Affairs and Trade): Statements (3 Jun 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I want to take these questions over and back and I beg forgiveness in respect of the first one. A place the Tánaiste might know well is the Border area around the Cooley Peninsula, particularly as he has attended many Brexit events in recent years. Unfortunately, this area has been hammered in recent days with fires in Annaloughan. A huge number of people in the Jenkinstown and...

Covid-19 (Foreign Affairs and Trade): Statements (3 Jun 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Coillte has its own contract and its own helicopter so at least that is in play at the minute. However, Louth County Council has submitted a request to the Air Corps. There is a technical difficulty but I hope we can get the matter sorted as quickly as possible. It is probably something that needs to be looked at into the future so that this problem does not arise again.

Covid-19 (Foreign Affairs and Trade): Statements (3 Jun 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I appreciate that. A number of Members have already asked the Tánaiste whether he has had contact with the US Embassy. Does the Government have plans to talk to the Trump Administration? Everybody was shocked and sickened by what happened to George Floyd. Ireland knows about the huge difficulty and anguish that can be caused for communities by the use of tear gas and rubber and...

Written Answers — Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Covid-19 Pandemic Supports (3 Jun 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 493. To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation if she will consider a scheme for businesses whose rates are significantly higher in 2020 than they were in 2019, due to rates revaluation and other factors and which are not sufficient as a restart grant; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9578/20]

Written Answers — Department of Health: Health Services (3 Jun 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 755. To ask the Minister for Health if he will request the HSE to establish a new easily accessible, dedicated telephone line and-or email for relatives of residents and staff in nursing homes and other congregated settings in order to raise concerns regarding the care or management of the centre with the relevant authorities. [9748/20]

Estimates for Public Services 2020 (Resumed) (28 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Was a directive changed or was that a mistake on the part of the person who spoke to me? Perhaps the Minister could answer in writing. I would also like an answer to the specific question about someone who falls under the aegis of EU Regulation No. 883/2004. By my reckoning, the worker I have mentioned should be able to avail of this payment on the basis that she cannot get a benefit in...

Estimates for Public Services 2020 (Resumed) (28 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Would it be possible for me, a Cheann Comhairle, to take my questions now? I do not wish to be difficult but it would make things a bit easier.

Estimates for Public Services 2020 (Resumed) (28 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I will be very fast. Deputy Gould trusts me implicitly.

Estimates for Public Services 2020 (Resumed) (28 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Partition is the gift that does not stop giving, or should I say, taking. It has been put on the record that many Northern workers have not been able to avail of the pandemic unemployment payment, PUP. We are obviously talking about people who have paid USC and PRSI in the South. Some of them have only worked in the South, which creates a difficulty with seeking benefits in the North....

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 739. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if there is specific guidance issued for taxi and minibus companies for reopening their businesses; if drivers will be expected to use specified PPE; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7894/20]

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 983. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the social protection assistance available to a person (details supplied) who lives in Northern Ireland but runs a business in Dundalk, County Louth and does not qualify for TWSS; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7895/20]

Special Committee on Covid-19 Response: Congregated Settings: Nursing Homes (Resumed) (26 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I would also like to express my sympathies to the families who have lost loved ones, particularly in nursing homes, and to the staff who cared for them. It is incredibly distressing. I would like to continue the questioning in regard to Dealgan House Nursing Home. It would be fair to say that Mr. Tadhg Daly of Nursing Homes Ireland spoke about what he saw as a major failing in regard to...

Special Committee on Covid-19 Response: Congregated Settings: Nursing Homes (Resumed) (26 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I have a number of questions which are quite general but if I could have specific answers regarding Dealgan House, it would be helpful. Mr. Daly also spoke about the discharges from acute hospitals and he put it down squarely to difficulties across nursing homes in general. With regard to Dealgan House Nursing Home, there were obviously a huge number of issues and it is an absolute tragedy....

Special Committee on Covid-19 Response: Congregated Settings: Nursing Homes (Resumed) (26 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Can Ms Dunnion give me a timeline for that?

Special Committee on Covid-19 Response: Congregated Settings: Nursing Homes (Resumed) (26 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: All of that is welcome. I spoke to a number of families and they are glad to have that interaction. It went from HIQA to the HSE. Can anybody give me an answer to who made the decision, and why, for the RCSI hospitals group to take over operational control?

Special Committee on Covid-19 Response: Congregated Settings: Nursing Homes (Resumed) (26 May 2020)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: So the HSE became aware from on or around 4 April?
