Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services: Families for Reform of CAMHS (17 Jan 2024)

David Cullinane: I welcome the witnesses. I thank them for their advocacy work on behalf of all the children and families and for the very detailed information they have provided to the committee, including the surveys that were done last year, which are quite shocking in terms of the responses that came back. I will get to those shortly. I might go through some of them because it is important for people...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services: Families for Reform of CAMHS (17 Jan 2024)

David Cullinane: I suggest that the committee follow up with the HSE because September is a long time ago. Information should be supplied to people who have asked questions. This is something that, hopefully, we can help with today. I want to deal with the surveys that were done. It is obvious that we need to regulate, reform and resource this sector. Any of us who have had any experience of families of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services: Families for Reform of CAMHS (17 Jan 2024)

David Cullinane: I will very quickly conclude. Some 4,400 children are waiting to get access to services. As we can see from the opening statements, even children who get into the services are not getting the treatment or supports they need. Following this hearing, there is definitely a need for us to follow up with the HSE and CAMHS at some stage over the next number of months. It is not good enough that...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying: Engagement with People with Disabilities (16 Jan 2024)

David Cullinane: I can also understand, however, the witnesses' position that there is a huge road to travel in relation to people with disabilities. "Give us a chance to have a bit of a life" was how it was put earlier. We have not given that chance to disabled people, and now they are being asked to give an opinion on assisted dying when we have not put the focus on assisted living. I completely...
