- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform: Overview of Banking Sector: Bank of Ireland (5 Nov 2014)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform: Overview of Banking Sector: Bank of Ireland (5 Nov 2014)
Thomas Byrne: I wonder sometimes about the function of these meetings. While members are allowed to speak and ask questions, where is the policy response? I am not sure there has been any policy response at Government level since our most recent meeting in April. Whatever we say about mortgages and repossessions, in the summer of 2013 the Government had a law voted in that facilitated the banks. Many...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform: Overview of Banking Sector: Bank of Ireland (5 Nov 2014)
Thomas Byrne: We have been messing around with this scheme for two years. I am not blaming the banks but the Government because it has done nothing. It is only now, after two years, that we may reach a resolution. This scheme could work well if the Government were serious about it.

Perhaps the joint committee should follow up on that issue.

Thomas Byrne: Thanks to calculating the income from prostitution, we have economic growth.
