Michael McNamara: Property prices only go up.
- Trade Union Movement and Workers' Rights: Motion [Private Members] (18 Jun 2013)
Michael McNamara: I thank the Leas-Cheann Comhairle for the opportunity to speak on this Private Members' motion which, I believe, is a shameless attempt to hijack the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Lock-out to promote a range of agenda as colourful and meaningless as the Technical Group collective. The 1913 Lock-out has an honourable place in Irish history and the terrible events of that tumultuous period...
- Topical Issue Debate: Living City Initiative (18 Jun 2013)
Michael McNamara: I wish to raise with the Minister of State the possibility of using the Finance Act, in particular the Living City initiative contained within the Act, as a blueprint for the regeneration of towns and villages throughout the country. I acknowledge that this initiative was limited to the cities of Limerick and Waterford. It was most welcome but I also welcome the announcement which succeeded...
- Topical Issue Debate: Living City Initiative (18 Jun 2013)
Michael McNamara: I am glad the Minister of State did not do so, given its content. I do not in any way advocate a return to section 23 - the Department might well have concerns about that. Many people would, because to return to that section would merely be to go back to what was wrong without having learned anything. What was introduced in the Living City initiative was very targeted, as the Minister of...

Michael McNamara: While it is almost 10.30 p.m., many fire fighters have waited a very long time for this and I believe we in this House can wait a couple of minutes longer. Many measures which are long overdue are included in this Bill and there are also many reforming measures, but this is a particularly important measure given the fact the great majority of fire services across rural Ireland are provided...

Michael McNamara: It is disused now.
- Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Joint Sub-Committee on Fisheries: Aquaculture and Tourism: Discussion (Resumed) with Fáilte Ireland (11 Jun 2013)
Michael McNamara: I welcome Mr. Pender and his colleagues to the committee. It is one of the more exciting things I get to do because it is one of the few areas where we can possibly contribute to the regeneration of rural areas. So much of what we do in both Houses of the Oireachtas is predicated on decisions made in Brussels and Strasbourg and this is one of the few areas where there is scope for Ireland...

- Confidence in the Minister for Justice and Equality: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (29 May 2013)
Michael McNamara: It might seem ironic to some that this motion tabled by Fianna Fáil would contain so many references to the rule of law, given one of the party's founder members, Seán Lemass, described it as a "slightly constitutional party". In fairness, his reference in that regard was owed to the party's revolutionary past rather than to its commitment to the rule of law, a commitment it still...
- Confidence in the Minister for Justice and Equality: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (29 May 2013)
Michael McNamara: If that is the case I will conclude. I had intended to cover Garda figures and the fact that this Government has protected them at a higher level than Fianna Fáil did.
