- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2014
Vote 31 - Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised) (23 Jan 2014) Timmy Dooley: The capital spend for the National Sports Campus and the Sports Council is increasing this year from €7 million to €15 million. What does this entail? I welcome the fact we have a sports capital programme in place. What is the value of this for this year? It states it is partly funded by the national lottery. I always believed it was all funded by the lottery. Will the...

Vote 31 - Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised) (23 Jan 2014) Timmy Dooley: I compliment the Department and the Coast Guard on the roll-out of the new fleet of helicopters. In recent times the extended capability on the west coast has been well utilised. I had an opportunity to interact with the local base in my constituency and it is a very well-run project. Discussions were held about utilising some spare capacity on the Coast Guard's contract. It was suggested...
- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2014
Vote 31 - Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised) (23 Jan 2014) Timmy Dooley: I thank the Minister for the clarification on the roads. It saves me a question. I note he spoke of making a payment to the aviation authority for exempt services. I thought the aviation authority was a significant profit generator. Am I to assume that it already makes a dividend to the State but it does not show in the Department's accounts? He might clarify whether it goes directly to...
- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2014
Vote 31 - Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised) (23 Jan 2014) Timmy Dooley: While I have the Minister on that, has he any proposals as part of his strategic review of aviation services to split that regulatory and commercial role? As he will be aware, that has happened in other jurisdictions. I wonder what his view might be on that.

- Committee on Transport and Communications: Select Sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2014
Vote 31 - Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised) (23 Jan 2014) Timmy Dooley: The Chairman already addressed the concerns about the necessity for funding of which the Minister is well aware as a result of the recent storms. In terms of general maintenance of the road network, the considerable reduction in funding to this area is leading to a pent-up problem that will surface in the near future because the NRA and local authorities are not in a position to maintain...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Role of National Parliaments in European Semester and Annual Growth Survey 2014: Secretary General of European Commission (23 Jan 2014)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome Ms Day and also Ms Nolan, whom we meet regularly and who keeps us well briefed on what the Commission is doing. Ms Day talked a little about the importance of engagement with national parliaments and encouraging debate in this regard. From an Irish citizen's perspective, it is always helpful if there is visibility or acceptance that the Commission is doing what we believe is...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Tendering of Bus Services: National Transport Authority (22 Jan 2014)
Timmy Dooley: For clarification, Deputy Harrington should read the document on transport his party published prior to the last general election. It sets out clearly that it is on Fine Gael’s agenda to privatise public transport services. Mr. Murphy will have to take his lead from the political arena. Although the internal governmental battle was lost by the Labour Party, there was a compromise.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Tendering of Bus Services: National Transport Authority (22 Jan 2014)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome the opportunity to say a few words. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend earlier, but I did get the opportunity to read Mr. Murphy's presentation. One of the concerns I have about the privatisation agenda is that I believe it opens up the potential for the future privatisation of our public transport network. I am concerned about the possible development of a fragmented network....

Timmy Dooley: We did not see the Deputy getting such a hard time when we were in government.
- European Council: Statements (21 Jan 2014)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome the opportunity to obtain clarification on a couple of points made by the Taoiseach. I sensed a lack of urgency at the summit on the jobs crisis, but perhaps the Minister of State, Deputy Paschal Donohoe, might enlighten me that the opposite was the case. When the currency seemed to be under threat and financial institutions seemed to be on the brink of collapse, various crisis...
