Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Airports (12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: 9. Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Airports (12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I welcome the €6 million in funding that was announced for regional airports. Why, however, has a derogation not being sought from the EU for this funding, as was done in respect of the €22 million funding allocated to Shannon and Cork airports? Has the Department checked that this funding meets the EU state aid rules under the temporary framework and can we get a breakdown of...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Airports (12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I welcome the Minister of State's commitment and her outlining of the plan, and I look forward to seeing it. She did not answer my question regarding why the EU derogation was not sought for the regional airports and if it has been checked that the €6 million in funding comes within the temporary framework. It is important that this be done. Although the money has been allocated, we...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Airports (12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I would appreciate if the Minster of State would give me a written answer regarding the derogation and why that was not done. It is important that we understand that. I would also like her to give me a written update regarding the correspondence on the temporary framework and if it meets the criteria. Making announcements without having that information just causes uncertainty, and God...

Select Committee on Education and Skills: Estimates for Public Services 2020
Vote 26 - Education and Skills (Further Revised)
(12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: Most of my questions have been asked. The Minister may recall that prior to 29 September, I raised the question of the outcome of the arbitration process that had recommended a cumulative pay increase of 10% between 2016 and 2019 for staff and that a minimum hourly rate of €13 be phased in over that period. That arbitration agreement was a step forward for paid secretaries and...

Select Committee on Education and Skills: Estimates for Public Services 2020
Vote 26 - Education and Skills (Further Revised)
(12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: If the Minister could even write back to me to clarify this, that would be okay as well. I accept she may not have that information with her. I welcome that she has said on the record that funding is not an issue within schools. We look forward to working with her and seeing how that pans out, particularly with ASD, transport and many of the other issues. I will leave it at that.

Select Committee on Education and Skills: Estimates for Public Services 2020
Vote 45 - Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (Revised)
(12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I thank the Minister. The first year student in my house will be pleased with that. With regard to the transfer of the functions and funding, when will it happen? I know the Minister has said it will be reflected in the 2021 figures with regard to enterprise, trade and employment. Was is easier to make the transfer from education? Are there blockages? Perhaps the Minister will speak...

Select Committee on Education and Skills: Estimates for Public Services 2020
Vote 45 - Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (Revised)
(12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: The Minister raised the issue of accommodation and I have a question in light of his meeting with the presidents of the universities next week. He told us that five of the seven campuses were going to do refunds. They are not doing refunds. There is a particular problem with the University of Limerick, UL. It is separate in terms of Sligo, but there is a problem there as well. Perhaps...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement: Shared Island Unit: Department of the Taoiseach (12 Nov 2020)

Rose Conway-Walsh: I really welcome this opportunity to hear from Ms O'Donoghue and Mr. Duffy. There is a lot of expectations around the shared island unit, which is a really important development. It is very important that we as a committee work together very closely with it so that we are not re-inventing the wheel and we add to each other's work rather than doing the same thing. Has the unit set out how...

I will raise two matters with the Minister. The first relates...

I thank Deputy McNamara and the Independent Group for tabling this motion, which we will support. I hope they will take cognisance of the amendments. I also welcome that the Government is looking at approaches to air travel that are more...
