- Questions on Promised Legislation (6 Apr 2017)
Michael Fitzmaurice: A form circulating in some counties, including Roscommon, is requiring people who have been on the rural social scheme, RSS, for ten or 12 years to reapply. This was never the case previously. Why would someone who has been on the RSS for that long need to reapply? As long as they met the criteria, they used to just sign their names every year. That is understandable.

- Defence Forces: Motion (4 Apr 2017)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I thank Deputy Noel Grealish for sharing time and I compliment Fianna Fáil on tabling the motion. We need to salute the soldiers throughout the country and the work they do. We have seen the work they have done rescuing people in foreign lands. It would make one proud to be Irish. They have worked with the United Nations on peacekeeping duties for many years and the Irish soldiers...
- Brexit: Statements (4 Apr 2017)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I am glad to have the opportunity to speak on this debate. The Europe we joined years ago - many people were in favour of it - was the European Economic Community, EEC. A community in anybody's eyes is a good thing. However, over the years it has changed considerably, some of it good, but an awful lot of it has intruded on the lives of people in different countries. People wonder why the...
- National Children's Hospital: Motion [Private Members] (29 Mar 2017)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I thank the Deputy for sharing time. I welcome this motion from the Rural Independent Group. Everyone in the House agrees that we need a world-class hospital for children. What should we build the hospital for? Should we build it to cater for all of Ireland or part of it? A few things emerged from the Minister's speech. He spoke about inflation. I come from the building sector and have...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Éireann: Discussion (Resumed) (29 Mar 2017)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I have two quick questions. The Minister must realise that in small rural towns around Ireland, and where I come from, there is no bus at all now. There are private buses in some of the larger towns but we have no bus service now. Does the Minister believe that a Bus Éireann driver who goes from Waterford to Galway, for example, should be on the equivalent wage as a Dublin Bus driver?...

- Money Advice and Budgeting Service and Citizens Information Centres: Motion (28 Mar 2017)
Michael Fitzmaurice: I congratulate Deputy Willie O'Dea on bringing froward the motion. The only problem with motions that have been brought forward in the Dáil in recent years, and on which we have voted, is that, sadly, nothing seems to happen on foot of them. I hope this one will be different, but I have my fears about it. MABS provides a local service in the towns in which they are located around...
- An Garda Síochána: Statements (28 Mar 2017)
Michael Fitzmaurice: Does the letter Mr. Gay Byrne received not show the type of systems in place, in that they were more interested in finding out who wrote the letter?
