Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Ceannteidil an Bhille um Údarás na Gaeltachta (Leasú), 2022: Grinnscrúdú Réamhreachtach (Atógáil). (31 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Ba mhaith liom cuidiú leis an bpointe mar gheall ar srian ar dhaoine - múinteoirí scoile agus éinne a bheadh bainteach leis an Stát - nach mbeadh ábalta páirt a ghlacadh. Táthar ag plé le pobal an-bheag chomh maith in a lán de na Gaeltachtaí.

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Ceannteidil an Bhille um Údarás na Gaeltachta (Leasú), 2022: Grinnscrúdú Réamhreachtach (Atógáil). (31 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Tá ceist an-tapa agam maidir leis na coistí réigiúnacha agus an ról a bheadh ag na comhaltaí ainmnithe. Conas a dhéanfaí láimhseáil air sin? An bhféadfadh an tAire Stáit eolas a thabhairt dúinn air sin? B'fhéidir gur luadh é sin níos luaithe ach an mbeadh na comhaltaí ainmnithe ar na coistí sin, conas...

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Ceannteidil an Bhille um Údarás na Gaeltachta (Leasú), 2022: Grinnscrúdú Réamhreachtach (Atógáil). (31 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Fáiltím roimh an tslí go bhfuil an daonlathas á thabhairt ar ais do phobal na Gaeltachta. Ba mhór an chailliúint í agus is rud an-dearfach é sin leis an mBille seo. Tuigim gurbh é sin an príomhaidhm ach nuair a bhíonn duine ag plé agus an comhrá ar siúl in aon áit mar gheall ar an údarás, leathnaíonn...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Climate Action Plan (30 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Taoiseach. Has he discussed with the various Departments the proposed nature restoration laws and plans currently being drawn up at EU level? As they currently stand, they are of major concern for many farmers who fear their lands might be flooded and not available for food production. The recent demand for environmental schemes clearly demonstrates the...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Mental Health Policy (25 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: The UCD survey identified 55% farmers with moderate to severe mental health issues and 40% with moderate to extreme anxiety and stress. It also drilled in to look at the sources of those different stresses. Some of the top three included not just the farm and ordinary farming activity but the perception that farmers are the bad guys in climate change and the enemy of so many people. This...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Mental Health Policy (25 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: I very much agree with the Minister of State about the perception and the fact that there were no major surprises in that survey. Farmers feel very much under siege from climate activists, unfortunately. It is not about a blame game. We need to know that everybody is in it together and farmers are very much to the forefront on that. After the marts closed down due to Covid and a lot of...

[25226/23]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Mental Health Policy (25 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: UCD recently conducted a survey of farmers and, unsurprisingly, found very high levels of stress among farmers, with over half reporting extremely severe depression. I am not sure if the Minister of State is aware of the survey and the causes. If he has an action plan for the stresses on farmers, I ask him to outline it to us.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Food Industry (25 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: These exports are built on the efforts of our farmers producing a quality, traceable, high-standard product. It means we hold a significant portion of a valuable market. It is diminishing for the various different reasons. Bord Bia is a significant player in communicating a message to the customers on the quality product we have. Does it have a particular campaign to take on the pressure...

[25225/23]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Food Industry (25 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Irish farmers produce food of the highest quality. They have a clean and green image. One of the outputs of that is the infant formula that is produced and traded across the world. Has the Minister engaged with various markets, Bord Bia and the industry about the pressure the industry is feeling as its output to China, for example, is diminishing?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Food Industry (25 May 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: China represents a significant part of the infant food market – I understand more than 26% globally. Its population is changing significantly. In 2016 there were 17 million or 18 million newborns; that figure is now closer to 10 million when it would have been expected to be almost double that. It is very much a moving target for enterprises selling into that market. Of course,...
