- Seanad: Reports on Department of Health Policy in RTÉ Investigates Programme: Statements (29 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I feel and understand the heartache, worry and disgust that has been raised by the "RTÉ Investigates" programme last Thursday. As any parent knows, we would go to any lengths to protect out children's rights. That is why it was like a kick in the stomach to learn that a Government body appeared to be impeding this process of parents fighting for their children. I was alarmed and...
- Seanad: Reports on Department of Health Policy in RTÉ Investigates Programme: Statements (29 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I want to correct something. In my opening statement, I said I had been informed by the Secretary General this morning that it was the Department's intention to publish the senior counsel's report. It is receiving legal advice on it at present. I want to clear that matter.
- Seanad: Reports on Department of Health Policy in RTÉ Investigates Programme: Statements (29 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank everybody who took the time to contribute to the debate. Like the Leas-Chathaoirleach, I thank Senators Ruane and Carrigy for sharing their personal information, and their children for allowing it to be shared. I am speaking off script and am giving my opinion. Sometimes people who work in Departments have to detach themselves and ask what the human side is, such as why there was a...
- Seanad: Living with Covid-19: Statements (29 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I want to start by acknowledging the extraordinary efforts that have been made and are continuing to be made by people the length and breadth of the country during this extremely challenging time. I appreciate that so many aspects of normal life have been altered since the emergence of Covid-19 over one year ago. As Minister of State with responsibility for disability, I have seen how these...
- Seanad: Living with Covid-19: Statements (29 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: Senator Seery Kearney raised that issue as well. It is important that, when we reopen after Easter, the education services that we provide to children be the priority, be they in special schools or classes. Students from first year to third year have not returned to school yet. Neither have transition year students – I cannot leave them out. These students need that social...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Covid-19 Pandemic (25 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank Deputy Alan Farrell for raising this important issue. On 17 March 2021, the European Commission published its proposal for a regulation to introduce a digital green certificate. The aim of the proposal is to facilitate free movement in the EU through a common framework for the issuance, verification and acceptance of certificates relating to vaccination, testing and recovery....
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Covid-19 Pandemic (25 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank the Deputy for giving me the opportunity to demonstrate that the Department is fully committed to advancing consideration of the proposal. We will continue our engagement on the proposal and we will consider it in the context of the Government's travel policy. We will endeavour to ensure that every effort is made to achieve alignment across the EU, where possible, in preparing for a...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Covid-19 Pandemic (25 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: Yet again, I thank the Deputies for raising this matter this evening. I do not want to stand here and not show empathy or understanding to what the Deputies have raised. I understand absolutely about the Internet. This is what some people in my constituency also experience. In all fairness, the Deputies' points are very well made. It is not that we are turning our back on the church....
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Covid-19 Pandemic (25 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank Deputies Mattie McGrath, Nolan, Michael Collins and O'Donoghue for raising this important matter. This is not the first time I have responded to the Deputies on this particular issue, which we also discussed it a number of weeks ago. As the Deputies are aware, the current public health restrictions at level 5 will remain in place until 5 April 2021, when a further review will be...
- Covid-19 Vaccination Programme (Health): Statements (25 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank the Deputy for the question on respite. She might have missed my earlier contribution where I said that all of the over 65s in that cohort have been vaccinated. We have now moved into the cohort of under 65s right across disabilities, of whom 4,000 have been vaccinated. There is still a way to go on that. The risk assessment is being done on it but we have not got to the day...
- Covid-19 Vaccination Programme (Health): Statements (25 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: I thank the Deputy for the questions. A total of 1,200 people aged over 65 have been vaccinated. The 4,000 are residents of congregated settings or community homes who were vaccinated up to 13 March. We then paused it because of the issues with AstraZeneca. It has now recommenced and we have approximately 12,000 to do.
- Covid-19 Vaccination Programme (Health): Statements (25 Mar 2021)
Anne Rabbitte: The national vaccination programme is unprecedented in its scale and will grow to become the largest immunisation programme in the history of the State. It is less than three months since the first vaccination dose was administrated in Ireland. Already more than 680,000 people have received a first dose with more than 184,000 of our most vulnerable and at-risk, including some of those with...
