Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (14 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: I take the Chair's point about Tullow Oil and there are a number of examples of partnerships between UCD and the companies that are involved in the Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geophysics, iCRAG. Energy is a contested sector at the moment and using an institution and a brand that have been built up by the State and whose good name is important to the State - in terms of our national...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: From Accessibility to Universal Design: Discussion (14 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: I thank the witnesses for their powerful presentations. I support the call for Part M to be reviewed and reconsidered. I am very glad to hear there is significant progress on changing places but, having worked in the construction industry, I believe there is an institutional lag or resistance to changing regulations for fear it will disrupt an already broken housing sector. This committee...

Joint Committee On Health: Impact of Covid-19 on Addiction Services: Discussion (13 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: I thank the witnesses for being with us. The opening statements and submissions have been excellent. I thank the witnesses for them. To continue the point made by Deputy Ward regarding advertising, Ballymun is only a hop, skip and jump over from my constituency, where temporary gambling advertising for particular events is a major problem. Gambling services are using their own...

Joint Committee On Health: Impact of Covid-19 on Addiction Services: Discussion (13 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: I completely agree. I can only speak from the experience of my constituency. Mr. Greaves raised the issue of increased violence associated with drug debts but I see that with gambling as well. Increased societal unrest seemed to arise during Covid-19 from that issue too.

Joint Committee On Health: Impact of Covid-19 on Addiction Services: Discussion (13 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: The issue of younger people was touched on and I am sure those representing Ballymun, and everyone else speaking here, will have had experience of this issue. When we are talking about grooming in this context, we are talking about young children being involved. Some research implies that children being included in the drug trade can be as young as ten or 11 years old. Can we explore how...

Joint Committee On Health: Impact of Covid-19 on Addiction Services: Discussion (13 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: That makes total sense. The local drug and alcohol task forces are doing incredible work. I have several questions on staffing. I will ask all the questions first and then whomever wishes to answer can come in. Ms Leonard will want to address some of them, I am sure. We have heard in this committee before about the difficulty regarding staffing in some roles, such as psychologists, for...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (Resumed) (7 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: Deputy Carthy has covered a little of what I wanted to raise, particularly that we should ask for specifics around the level of funding over the past few years. I have no objection to the course of action being proposed.

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (6 Oct 2021)

Neasa Hourigan: Approximately one in 20 people in Ireland lives with diabetes. Despite this, we do not have a good handle on clinical outcomes or prevalence rates at a geographical level. This means we cannot provide the appropriate services where they are needed. University Hospital Limerick is one of the few model 4 hospitals that does not offer a DAFNE course for managing type 1 diabetes. Without this...
