- Other Questions: Child Care Services (21 Jul 2016)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I support Deputy O'Sullivan's point. I understand there is a review of the CCA and other schemes but it needs to be much broader. We need to examine how child care can be subsidised for a much broader range of ages and for the general body of children. This is vitally important.

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Mother and Baby Homes Inquiries (21 Jul 2016)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: The Minister said she met with the chair of the commission recently. In that context I would like to ask specifically if the extension of the terms of reference of the commission was discussed. Mar is eol don Aire, tá cuid mhaith de na daoine a bhí sna háiteanna seo fágtha ar an imeall, gan ghuth agus gan ghlór, le tamall maith anuas. Many of the victims of these...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Mother and Baby Homes Inquiries (21 Jul 2016)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I recently met with some of the survivors of these homes. Many of the stories they told me were absolutely harrowing. They have a number of concerns particularly about the centres or locations that are not included. Many of them are discommoded that they do not have access to their personal testimony subsequent to giving it. This is something that is very traumatic and difficult for them...

- Select Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Strategic Plan 2016-2018: Engagement with Ombudsman for Children (20 Jul 2016)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: Overcrowding is not often discussed in the media but the problem has a serious detrimental effect on children. The issue is related to the housing strategy. I know of one family of two adults, three teenagers and two younger children who live in a small, old two-bedroom flat. There are probably numerous similar cases. The lack of social housing is having a major impact because children do...

- Domiciliary Care Allowance: Motion [Private Members] (19 Jul 2016)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: The motion to extend medical cards to ill and disabled children would be an immediate, clear, simple and direct step to aiming the moneys of the State directly where it would have most effect and reach those who are most in need. Tá an córas liúntais seo bunaithe ar riachtanais an linbh. Dá bharr sin, tá sé ag déileáil le páistí a bhfuil...
- Topical Issue Debate: Road Network (19 Jul 2016)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: The part of the Minister's response that jumps out at me the most is the reference to the 12 km of the N28. The investment involved would result in 1,100 high-end jobs, but there will be a potential loss of €59.4 billion in present value terms over 25 years if it is not developed quickly enough. The value for money in this project is enormous. If the Government is serious about...
- Topical Issue Debate: Road Network (19 Jul 2016)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: Gabhaim mo bhuíochas leis an Aire as bheith anseo. The Minister will no doubt be aware of the importance of the N28. It is one of the most strategically important roads in the State. In terms of outlay in comparison to potential economic return, it may well be the best value for money. This has been on the cards for some time now. The road will link the Bloomfield interchange and...
