Alan Shatter: I am informed by the Garda authorities that Garda management is not aware of any new evidence along the lines referred to by the Deputy, and that the incident in question, which occurred in 1989, was the subject of a thorough investigation at the time and also gave rise to complaints to the Garda Síochána Complaints Board.

Alan Shatter: The Deputy is confused and while I do not want to get engaged with this, it was INM that had the debts written off. The Deputy is obsessing about a particular individual but Independent News and Media had its debts written off. That was the legal framework for what occurred.
