Marie Moloney: With regard to the bereavement grant, community welfare officers used to deduct the amount of bereavement grant from the burial grant. It was obligatory to apply for the bereavement grant before an application for a burial grant was processed and the amount was then deducted. Now that the bereavement grant is gone they can give the full amount.
