Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration: General Scheme of the Guardianship of Infants (Amendment) Bill 2025: Discussion (1 Jul 2025)

Catherine Callaghan: I do not have an enormous number of questions for Mr. French. I thank him for coming in and sympathise with him on the loss of his sister and with his nephews on the loss of their mother. It is a horrendous experience that does not bear thinking about. As a sister and mum myself, I commit, along with my colleagues, to do everything we can to reform the laws. I thank him for the work he...

Committee on Members’ Interests of Dáil Éireann: Business of Select Committee (26 Jun 2025)

Catherine Callaghan: Apologies have been received from Deputies O'Dea and O'Reilly. I remind all members to please turn off their mobile phones or at least switch them to flight mode. As Cathaoirleach, I do solemnly declare that I will duly and...

Catherine Callaghan: I thank Senator Clonan for that. I was chairing another meeting, which is why I missed the contributions of our guests. Professor Tonra said in his opening remarks that if we are no longer to rely on the Security Council as the gatekeeper of legitimacy and are finally to remove the veto given to the five permanent members, we must establish robust mechanisms of our own. Does he not think...

Catherine Callaghan: Okay, so it will not be advertised as an apprenticeship. Will there be an information campaign about that?
