Taoiseach a Ainmniú - Nomination of Taoiseach (9 Apr 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: They will get a hammering anyway.

General Practice and Local Health Services: Motion (20 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: I thank Deputy Cullinane and his party for bringing this issue to the fore. In discussing the delivery of services, I wish to speak about GP services in places such as the Iveragh Peninsula in south Kerry, which is losing GPs. If we do not have access to care in our rural locations in particular and if we do not have the requisite resources in those locations, it will be detrimental. I...

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: I compliment the Labour Party of old, the Labour people who were here in the past, the good people who were here for many years, when the Acting Chairman, Deputy Ring, was also here.

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: There were sound people in Labour at that time. We had the Springs, Moynihan-Cronins and other great people here-----

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: -----not people like those who are here now. I will tell the House why. The current people, at their conference, said they would build 1 million houses. The only thing these people would know about a house would be how to object to it-----

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: -----and how to object to developments. Those are the people here now.

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: The objectors of today are of what I would call the useless Labour Party of today. It is defunct, obsolete and non-existent in the people's psyche. As far as the people are concerned, the party is irrelevant in Irish politics today. It is ironic to see its members talking about housing considering that they are the finest group of objectors and do-nothingers I have ever seen.

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: They are leading in no way-----

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: Sorry, Chair, it is a fright that they do not have the manners to keep their mouths shut. However, when you are irrelevant all you can do is shout inside here in the way they are doing.

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: I would like to use my time properly in saying we have many-----

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: -----difficulties in housing at present, and we have solutions to housing.

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: We have practical-----

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: You can be sure of one thing: the policies we have do not mean we will stand up-----

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: -----and say we will build 1 million houses.

Housing Targets and Regulations: Motion [Private Members] (6 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: It is a fright they do not have the manners to let a person have his time.

Supporting People with Disabilities and Carers: Motion [Private Members] (5 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: I thank Deputy Tully and Sinn Féin for bringing forward this important motion tonight. Relaxing the carer's allowance means test and increasing the disability allowance, invalidity pension, illness benefit, carer's allowance and benefit, and the annual carer's support grant is of paramount importance. I believe that taking care of people in their own home is the best place you can have...

International Women's Day: Statements (5 Mar 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: The essence of this day is being undermined by the Government's superficial gestures and lack of substantial support for women. The Government's decision to hold a referendum on gender on International Women's Day is a disheartening example of this trend. This move, rather than being a genuine effort to uplift women, appears to be a cynical and hollow gimmick. It reduces a potential...

RTÉ: Statements (28 Feb 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: We need a national broadcaster and that is a fact but I see the excellent work that other media outlets, such as Radio Kerry do on a shoestring. They run an extremely efficient business and do great work on a shoestring. Why must the model of RTÉ be as it is? I will give an example. I will not name the person but there is a man who does all the bemoaning, shouting, grumbling and...

RTÉ: Statements (28 Feb 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: And Benjy in "The Riordans" as well and Maggie and all of them. They were great people. We were very proud of them and that is not a joke. It is fact. The Minister should not knock the whole thing now. We need to keep our national broadcaster but please try to get it right.

Mental Health (Amendment) Bill 2023: Second Stage (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 Feb 2024)

Michael Healy-Rae: I thank Sinn Féin most sincerely. It is ironic. I will say this directly to the Sinn Féin Members. Last night, I was at a meeting with a young adult who had been adversely affected by what happened to her because of the situation in south Kerry. I told her that this debate would be coming up tonight thanks to the Deputies and their party and that we would have an opportunity to...
