Robert Troy: I have a question about maritime administration. A report was produced on the Irish Coast Guard following the tragedy last year in which four people lost their lives. Will the additional funding be sufficient to ensure all the recommendations of that report will be implemented? Has the Minister set a timeline for the officials to ensure each of those recommendations is implemented?

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2018
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Supplementary)
(5 Dec 2018)

Robert Troy: I agree with what Deputy Coppinger said. It looks quite poor that we are only giving €150,000 in additional funding to Women in Sport, but I am conscious that it is a Supplementary Estimate. What does this bring the actual 2018 figure to? What percentage of the overall sports expenditure is geared to women in sport? I would hate the perception to go out from this committee that...

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2018
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Supplementary)
(5 Dec 2018)

Robert Troy: I concur with Deputy Coppinger. The amount of funding being spent on the Irish Open as opposed to on Paralympics Ireland, anti-doping measures and the Women in Sport programme can be perceived badly. That is why I was using the example of the percentage of this year's overall expenditure being spent by the Department on the latter programme. This is IAA funding. As the Minister...

The numbers have fallen so it is a positive development that additional funding is being allocated. It is a little bit outside what we are talking about here but, in terms of the additional funding secured in the 2019 budget, has the...
