Maureen O'Sullivan: The witnesses are welcome. Based on the size of the delegation I am not too sure what kind of criticism or questions they are expecting.

Maureen O'Sullivan: I want to acknowledge A Better World and the extent of the work that went into producing it. The very positive response it received from everybody who attended the launch in UCD, including NGOs, civil society and so on was obvious. That was a positive start. All increases are welcome. I notice that in almost every category administration pay and non-pay are the allocations that have...

Maureen O'Sullivan: That is okay. The figure gives a different impression. On requests for embassy admissions and the way in which the Tánaiste has decided on the particular number, I am aware there are some who are disappointed by that. Will he consider more as time goes on? On the reconciliation work that is still to be done and the work that may take generations, the Government is putting money...

Vote 28 - Foreign Affairs and Trade (Revised)
(28 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: I have one comment. I attended two of the Common Foreign and Security Policy meetings, including the most recent one in Bucharest. I have real concerns over the increasing talk about European armies, etc. There are few voices at that level talking about other ways of dealing with issues besides a European army.

Vote 28 - Foreign Affairs and Trade (Revised)

Maureen O'Sullivan: The business and human rights policy was a long time coming. We finally have a chair of the committee but we need to put the policy into action as regards Irish business and not let the policy sit on the shelf. We are told this is being done in the context of trade but we do not want to hear of Irish companies that are involved in dubious practices relating to workers' rights and decent pay.

Maureen O'Sullivan: I apologise but I must leave by 4.15 p.m. for an appointment. I agree with the Minister of State's conclusion that we have a well-earned reputation. It comes from the fact that our aid is untied and poverty focused and from the way in which it is delivered. We know this through our contact with our ambassadors, embassies and NGOs and missionaries. It is important that we hold on to that...

Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Industry (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: 89. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if progress been made by the Irish Greyhound Board towards creating a separate body for the registration of racing greyhounds in order that owners of greyhounds interested in track racing only will no longer have to register with the governing body for hare coursing. [13950/19]

Maureen O'Sullivan: 98. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine his views on a media report (details supplied) that greyhound racing here is perceived as lacking integrity in view of concerns such as doping and irregular betting being made by high profile racing sources; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13949/19]

Written Answers — Department of Finance: Corporation Tax Regime (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: 187. To ask the Minister for Finance the amount of corporation tax paid in each of the years 2014 to 2018, from international companies registered in the Dublin docklands area; and his views on whether a proportion of these taxes should be ring-fenced to support initiatives in the nearby local communities. [12896/19]

Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Industry Data (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: 996. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will consider publishing yearly lists outlining the number of greyhounds exported and the countries they were exported to; his views on whether this would be a welcome step for transparency in view of the concerns of welfare groups and past reports of Irish greyhounds being exported to countries with no animal welfare; and if...

Maureen O'Sullivan: 997. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if a review of a case (details supplied) drawn to his attention by a person will be undertaken; and if the original complaints by the person were investigated fully at the time of complaint. [13952/19]

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Racing Bill 2018: Committee Stage (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: I move amendment No. 1: In page 9, between lines 17 and 18, to insert the following: " "white list" means the annual list prepared by welfare members of the International Greyhound Forum in conjunction with Rásaíocht Con Éireann of countries, which at its sole discretion, meet minimum standards with regard to welfare of greyhounds, and to which the licensed export of...

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Racing Bill 2018: Committee Stage (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: I would like to make a couple of points. I am not making any assumptions or presumptions about China, Macau and Pakistan. We have the graphic evidence, statistics and details of what happens in those places from animal welfare groups. This is an opportunity to prevent Irish greyhounds from ending up in such places, where we know they will not be treated properly. Surely a difficulty with...

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Racing Bill 2018: Committee Stage (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: No. That statement was contradictory. Either we care about the welfare of greyhounds or we do not. It will be difficult to prevent them from going to certain countries, but Australia can do it. Can we not examine how it managed that? Why are we just saying that we cannot do it? We will knowingly continue to allow greyhounds to be exported to countries where they will be badly treated....

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Racing Bill 2018: Committee Stage (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: I am pressing it.

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Racing Bill 2018: Committee Stage (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: Where are greyhound welfare groups represented on the board? I do not see that in the Bill. Perhaps I have missed that in some of the sections.

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Greyhound Racing Bill 2018: Committee Stage (26 Mar 2019)

Maureen O'Sullivan: I move amendment No. 5: In page 25, between lines 13 and 14, to insert the following: “Export of Greyhounds 26. (1) It shall be an offence for a person to— (a) export, (b) attempt to export, or (c) assist another person in the export or attempted export, of a greyhound to a non-EU country which is not included in the white list which has been prescribed by the Minister....
