Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 4 - Central Statistics Office
(11 Apr 2019)

Bobby Aylward: I do not understand. I am from Kilkenny. Waterford is next door. Is data fed into the central system in Dublin from every station in the country? Is that how it works? If someone is caught speeding tonight and is breathalysed, does the individual garda put that information into the system or is it done through a centre in, for example, Kilkenny?

Vote 4 - Central Statistics Office
(11 Apr 2019)

Bobby Aylward: In speaking generally with gardaĆ, I have been told that, if someone is caught for speeding tonight, that information will be in the system within one or two hours. I believed the garda fed it in by computer rather than phone, but maybe I was wrong.

Public Accounts Committee: Matters Relating to the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board Financial Statements 2017: Professor Chris Fitzpatrick (11 Apr 2019)

Bobby Aylward: I welcome Professor Fitzpatrick's presentation and his vision and ambition. We all agree with it. We have gone around in circles about this hospital for the guts of 20 years. There was controversy about the Mater Hospital, we looked at a site in Crumlin and then we came to St. James's Hospital. Many are still of the opinion that it should not be on any of those sites, but in a new...

Public Accounts Committee: Matters Relating to the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board Financial Statements 2017: Professor Chris Fitzpatrick (11 Apr 2019)

Bobby Aylward: If we got this hospital at St. James's and the new one at St. Vincent's, would the others such as the Coombe close down because they are outdated, having been built years ago? Will we concentrate on just the maternity hospitals, if it came to pass, at St. James's, St. Vincent's and Tallaght?

Public Accounts Committee: Matters Relating to the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board Financial Statements 2017: Professor Chris Fitzpatrick (11 Apr 2019)

Bobby Aylward: I am glad that Professor Fitzpatrick said that. There are difficult pregnancies in the rest of Ireland and special cases have to come to Dublin. In my local area, they cannot come to Waterford, Kilkenny or such. This hospital would be available. It would not be just for Dublin.

Public Accounts Committee: Matters Relating to the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board Financial Statements 2017: Professor Chris Fitzpatrick (11 Apr 2019)

Bobby Aylward: It is for the Thirty-two Counties. There will always be difficult pregnancies that have to be brought to Dublin for special care that is needed, whether before or after birth.

Rural and Community Development: Statements (10 Apr 2019)

Bobby Aylward: The communities of rural Ireland continue to struggle with the disparity of the two-tier recovery which has been presided over by successive Fine Gael-led Governments during the past eight years. Rural Ireland delivered a very clear message to Fine Gael following the 2016 general election as the people stated in no uncertain terms that the so-called recovery was not being felt in the...
