Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Community Development Projects (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: 11. To ask the Minister for Rural and Community Development the total amount of funding provided to community and voluntary organisations specifically to assist with the impact of Covid-19; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8653/22]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Community Development Projects (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: I thank the Department for the work it has done. My question is on the funding provided to community and voluntary organisations specifically to assist with the impact of Covid-19. This funding was extremely beneficial in helping communities. Now it is about trying to encourage communities to get back into full action. We have had the Covid-19 stability fund and the town and village...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Community Development Projects (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: I thank the Minister of State. The community activities fund he outlined is a €9 million fund. My understanding is that demand for the fund may have exceeded the total funding available. Is any provision being made whereby additional money can be put into this? It is extremely important. The town and village renewal scheme had funding of €15.4 million. This goes back to...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Community Development Projects (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: I thank the Minister of State and the Minister for all the work particularly during Covid-19.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Development (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: 10. To ask the Minister for Rural and Community Development the engagement her Department has had on the development of new regional enterprise plans; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8652/22]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Development (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: This question is about the development of the new regional enterprise plans. I understand that nine plans are to be developed. What progress has been made on them and what engagement has taken place? When are the plans to be finalised and when will they be launched?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Development (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: Under the rural development policy for 2021 to 2025 there are 152 policy measures in the framework plan. For example, policy measure 25 is to promote awareness, and the use, of remote working hubs. That is a problem in my constituency. There are three hubs in my constituency but approximately 50% of the people in one of the areas involved do not have access to broadband. There is a...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Development (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: The parish of Inniscarra has been divided in two with the extension of the city boundary. Half of the parish is now in the city and half is in the county. It is a huge community. We have been very lucky in developing community facilities. There are over 50 acres of community grounds between rugby pitches, soccer pitches, GAA pitches and camogie pitches, but there is no broadband.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Regional Development (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: I have engaged with the local authority and it says it does not have funding to develop further hubs. Can that be looked at with regard to funding so additional hubs can be made available?

Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Legislative Measures (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: 117. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if she will prioritise the enactment of the Family Court Bill 2020; the progress being made in the development of the Bill; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8671/22]

Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Legislative Measures (17 Feb 2022)

Written Answers — Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Sports Funding (17 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: 206. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the current position in respect of the release of funds under the 2018 Sports Capital Programme; the status of the funding due to a club (details supplied) given that all of the legal issues which were raised by the Office the State Solicitor were resolved more than six months ago; and if she will make a statement on the matter....

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Water Services (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: I thank the Minister of State. My understanding is that there is now a connection from this treatment plant directly into a pumping station that pumps sewage into a facility for Irish Water, in towards Cork city. That connection is with an Irish Water sewage treatment facility but no one seems to be taking responsibility for the individual treatment facility that is servicing Castlewhite in...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Water Services (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Malcolm Noonan, for being here to deal with this matter. I am concerned about the stand-alone sewage treatment facilities that were built right across the entire country back between 2000 to 2008. Companies then ended up in NAMA and no one seems to have taken responsibility for the management of these sewage treatment facilities. It came to a head in...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Primary Care Services (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: 223. To ask the Minister for Health the progress of his Department and the HSE in prioritising the development of primary care eye teams in CHO6, CHO7 and CHO9 in 2022 with a view to extending these teams to other CHOs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8630/22]

Written Answers — Department of Health: Primary Care Services (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: 224. To ask the Minister for Health the details of the transfer of care for children aged 8 plus years to local optometrists to reduce waiting lists and enhance access to primary eye care services; if the anticipated six- to-nine-month timeframe for conclusion of this project in 2022 is on target; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8631/22]

Written Answers — Department of Health: Vaccination Programme (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: 225. To ask the Minister for Health the estimated cost to fund the HPV vaccine catch-up programme for those who have missed out on the HPV vaccine in first year of school for any given reason; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8633/22]

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Oversight of Sláintecare: Discussion (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: I thank the Department and HSE. It has been a challenging two years. I thank everyone involved in dealing with the Covid issue and the challenges posed by it. I want to move on to the here and now and where we go from here with regard to healthcare in Ireland over the next five to ten years. One issue that will occur and already exists is with difficulties in recruiting. I am concerned...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Oversight of Sláintecare: Discussion (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: Mr. Watt mentioned retaining people. One issue with junior doctors is that if they come in from outside the EU or EEA, they will not get a stamp 4 visa until they have been here for at least five years. There is a proposal to reduce that to two years. My understanding is that it is now stuck in a logjam between the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and, I believe, the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Oversight of Sláintecare: Discussion (16 Feb 2022)

Colm Burke: The reason I am raising this issue is to do with young people also. Many young qualified nurses and doctors traditionally go abroad after having qualified or having done one or two years here. That has not happened in the past few years. Whether we like it or not, a substantial number of young trained people will leave this country. Are the HSE and the Department of Health planning for...
