Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Business of Joint Committee (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: He should pass on the committee's concerns that he has not seen fit to make himself available on such a very important issue. He has said he is under pressure from work, but this is actually his job.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Business of Joint Committee (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: I believe we have all received correspondence from the Coast Guard outlining its grave concerns particularly on how the directive on the blue lights and sirens would impede its ability to respond to an emergency. We should invite not just senior Coast Guard representatives, but also staff and volunteers, including the volunteers who have raised grave concerns with this latest directive. I...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rural Taxis and Rural Transport Programme: Discussion (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: I will share my time with Senator Conway-Walsh. Similar to what other members have said, we all recognise that rural transport is on its knees. It has been neglected for decades. Imelda Munster: I am not sure Mr. O'Reilly answered my question but if he did, I apologise. I asked if one licence per village or town would be issued. Mr. O'Reilly also stated that the maximum distance each way would be, say, 15 km. Let us take the case of someone living just outside the boundary who wants to go into the local town to socialise or whatever. In one of the responses, Mr. O'Reilly said...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: It is obvious that some parts of rural areas are not served by the rural transport programme. Can the witnesses from the NTA tell us the areas that have a functioning rural transport programme and the areas that do not? I submitted a question about it some time ago and was told that the NTA was unable to collate that information. I am quite sure that was an error. I am sure that as the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: If the NTA has a problem answering questions, that is up to it.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: The Chairman can do it. It is not the first time he has done it.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: I was referring not just to hackneys and taxis, but rural transport provision generally across the State. It is clear that some areas are without any public transport. I presume Ms Graham or her colleagues have a list of those areas that have no public transport or where there is minimal provision.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)

Imelda Munster: A list of places with no service would be helpful too.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
