- Other Questions: Social Workers Recruitment (11 May 2017)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: To an extent, this question relates to Deputy Jan O'Sullivan's priority question and Deputy Anne Rabbitte's question. It is an issue that has been raised on a regular basis. It relates to the coverage of social workers. It is also particularly worth commenting on not only the levels of recruitment but also the issue of retention which I think is something of a difficulty for Tusla.

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I thank the Minister for her response. Last Tuesday there was due to be a conference in Smock Alley on the future of Oberstown to which many Members were invited. That event was cancelled. I had expected that in that context and close to that date, the Minister might publish the independent review or at least make a statement on the matter. The Minister is correct that I am referring to...

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: We need a more concrete commitment to when this report will be published. This process cannot go on indefinitely. I ask the Minister, if she can, to give a more specific indication of when it will be published. The cessation from 30 March onward of the practice of putting persons under the age of 18, whether on remand or on committal, in adult prisons was a welcome development. It is a...

- Questions on Promised Legislation (10 May 2017)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: Approximately 3,000 women are waiting on these payments. It is a time in people's lives when there are considerable extra costs. These women and their families are effectively being left without income. The Minister, Deputy Varadkar, has pointed to supplementary welfare and exceptional needs payments. In reality, though, and as he knows well, a great deal of these women and families will...

- Questions on Promised Legislation (4 May 2017)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: There is a category of people who are caught out because their incomes are too high for local authority housing and too low to access mortgages. They attend our clinics every week and there are, unfortunately, very few options for them. Very little is being done for this category of people and it is deeply frustrating. Action is required. The cost rental model is one of the things that...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: City and County Child Care Committees: Discussion (3 May 2017)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I thank the committees for the work they are doing.
