Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Committee Stage (Resumed) (9 Jun 2021)

Darren O'Rourke: I wish to speak in support of the amendment. There is a consistency through the Sinn Féin amendments. There is a very clear theme not just in our own amendments, but in the various amendments that have been submitted by the full range of opposition parties and groups, in fairness to everybody who went to the bother of scrutinising the Bill and looking at where they felt there was room...

Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Committee Stage (Resumed) (9 Jun 2021)

Darren O'Rourke: I echo much of what has been said. Thank you Chair for your stewardship. I thank the Minister and the Minister of State for their engagement. The level of engagement and the large number of amendments submitted by the Opposition is a reflection of how serious we all take this issue. That was true of the committee on pre-legislative scrutiny stage also. I ask the Minister of State to...

I thank the An Post workers who have done such great work during the pandemic and more generally. I also thank the witnesses for the number of initiatives they took, some of which were captured in their presentation. The postcards reflected very...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rapid Antigen Testing for Aviation and Travel Sectors: Discussion (9 Jun 2021)

Darren O'Rourke: I thank the witnesses for their presentations and for the time they spent preparing them. I will get straight into the questions. In terms of scalability, how quickly could Duelchem scale up to service the Irish aviation sector and airports? Is it the technology piece that they do, or do they also do the testing piece? Do they work with partners regarding that? Dr. Power has a very...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rapid Antigen Testing for Aviation and Travel Sectors: Discussion (9 Jun 2021)

Darren O'Rourke: I thank our guests. Their contributions are very important, not least in terms of how they compared PCR and antigen testing and how they spoke about the way we use tests and how tests can be plugged into a strategy. Would antigen testing be used pre departure and post arrival? Would it be self-administered or carried out through a laboratory on site at, say, an airport? Will our guests...

Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2021: Committee Stage (Resumed) (8 Jun 2021)

Darren O'Rourke: I move amendment No. 61: In page 9, line 27, to delete “, in the Minister’s opinion,”. Amendments Nos. 61 to 63, inclusive, seek to do the same thing. Obviously, they are supported by a number of Deputies of different persuasions. It is about tightening up and trying to address the get-out clauses, for want of a better term, of the current Bill. The phrase,...
