Thomas Byrne: Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the ASTI dispute - there are arguments on both sides - the children have done nothing and should not be punished with a 10% reduction in their junior certificate marks. The Minister is standing over that and saying he will not change it.

Thomas Byrne: Normally in industrial relations the people who strike lose out. In this case the children will be punished. The Minister cannot stand over children being punished for an industrial relations dispute between the Department of Education and Skills and the ASTI.
