- Written Answers — Department of Public Expenditure and Reform: Capital Expenditure Programme (22 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: 83. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the estimated capital expenditure by each State supported body in each of the years 2018 to 2027 under the national development plan 2018 to 2027, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9094/18]
- Supporting the Suckling Sector: Motion [Private Members] (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: I commend Deputy McConalogue and Deputy Cahill for tabling this motion. In recent days the House has discussed the national planning framework and the national development plan. That is supposed to end two-legged exports from the western coast. It is full of brim and dazzle, with no substance. Deputy McConalogue's proposal this evening relates to stopping the export of four-legged animals...
- Supporting the Suckling Sector: Motion [Private Members] (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: The Minister is travelling the country at the moment, which I welcome. I know the Minister of State, Deputy Andrew Doyle, is in Mayo this evening listening to the stories from the core of Irish farming. The Minister will know that in many ways it stands at a cliff edge at this time. We face the challenge of Mercosur and the decline in quality which that might bring with it; Brexit and the...
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Business of Joint Committee (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: Could the Chairman clarify that, please? There are two separate issues, those being, the equality budgeting initiative and the Revised Estimates, or are they-----
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Business of Joint Committee (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: Are both being dealt with today?
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Equality Budgeting Initiative: Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: I welcome the delegation which perfectly demonstrates equality and commend it on its work. We have been talking about this issue in the abstract for quite a long time so to begin to see it in reality is quite interesting. However, I am wondering about the choice of measures. In terms of demonstrating the potential impact of equality budgeting, there may have been stronger measures and...
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Equality Budgeting Initiative: Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: I am not ranking them but it just strikes me that some are weak. Smoking is one area, for example, where enormous progress has been made in the last number of years with both genders in terms of cutting down. Something in the health area that addressed access to health treatments based on regional location or income, for example, would have been a better measure.
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Equality Budgeting Initiative: Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: I do not doubt that but if this is to work the way we all believe it should, it must highlight the basic and fundamental equality issues in Departments. Rather than looking at a specific stream in education, for example, we should be looking at access to education. The various disadvantages faced by women, particularly by women who do not finish school, should have been the starting point...
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Equality Budgeting Initiative: Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: Austria adopted this in 2012, how long has it been in practice?
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Equality Budgeting Initiative: Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: It will be still be quite limited if there is only one per spending Department, or was it five?
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Services for People with Disabilities (21 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: 162. To ask the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that assessment of needs policy has changed in County Mayo; if children must now have a pre-diagnosis before being accepted for assessment of needs appointments; if the policy has changed; if this policy has changed nationwide; if it is restricted to County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8960/18]
- Project Ireland 2040: Statements (20 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: One never knows but I do not think they will get a second series.
- Project Ireland 2040: Statements (20 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: Deputy Cowen has dealt with the planning framework. I intend to focus my remarks on the so-called national development plan, NDP. It is ironic that the Ireland 2040 promotional campaign includes cinema advertisements at a time when the film awards season is at its height. Based on the actual content of the plan, in contrast to the hype surrounding its launch, various Ministers could be in...
- Project Ireland 2040: Statements (20 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: -----and the plan itself would most definitely would win an award for screenplays. The hype of the launch was designed to distract from the many flaws in the plan. It was intended to distract from the Government's overall incompetence in delivering on big infrastructure projects to date. On housing, this Fine Gael-led government and its Fine Gael-led predecessor have launched four...

- Questions on Promised Legislation (15 Feb 2018)
Dara Calleary: The Cabinet has an uncomfortable weekend ahead. There will be so much spinning tomorrow that everyone will be dizzy for the weekend when the national planning framework and the capital plan are addressed. The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Deputy Eoghan Murphy, is in the Chamber. Will he confirm, since the Taoiseach was unable to do so yesterday, what the Government's...
