Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: There is no budget.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: Will the Minister answer those questions after that meeting, though?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: The Minister cannot stay off the record on this.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: My point on the RCOG report is that approximately 100 colposcopy reviews were done as part of this process which is raising other issues which Dr. Henry might deal with. The Minister's commentary around the review is that it goes to confidence in screening, etc. I am not even going there; that is not my issue. I want to have as much confidence in this as possible, just like everyone else....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: I know but the Minister needs to answer. I have no problem with him doing it next week but he does need to answer.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: What of the request for independent reviews? I did not get an answer on that. What is Dr. Henry's view on that?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: I would like Dr. Henry's opinion on it.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Meeting on Health Issues (11 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: Jesus.

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: I welcome our guests back. Deputy O'Connell and I had a slight feeling of déjà vu. We went around the houses last week but there are many more players today. To be fair to Mr. Gunning and Mr. Barry, they have taken on a poisoned chalice, in a way. Some of the questions at the Joint Committee on Health, especially to Mr. Gunning about his history and where he was before this, were...

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: I have read this report inside-out. I have approximately 20 pages of notes from it as the people who attended the committee last week know. I have gone through it in depth. Not enough people have read it. I do not want a status report. I am asking if there is anybody here with any concerns extra and above what we know publicly.

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: For the record, everybody at the committee has no concerns outside of what is identified in this report or is public at present. Is that fair enough to say?

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: Is there anything new relating to time? Does anybody have concerns that they know about which they need to air now? Everything will be known in the future anyway so I am asking if there is anything that we need to know about now.

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: Is there anything new?

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: I am not saying that.

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: Is there anything specific?

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: Deputy O'Connell and I have gone through this at the Joint Committee on Health.

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: We know about those two risks. We have talked about them at the Joint Committee on Health and it has been publicly aired. I will open this up to Mr. Barry and Mr. Gunning but, pardon the pun, they have probably been interrogated on this enough. Does anybody else want to say anything publicly to Ireland that is not known, that people are not aware of, or any concerns that they need to air?

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: I am sorry for interrupting but I am caught for time. We know all of that. It has been aired publicly. Does anyone have anything else? No. That is fine. I asked at last week's health committee meeting about additional claims for the project, so I presume Mr. Gunning or Mr. Barry will have an answer today. They outlined how just over €1 million to date has been paid in extra...

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: None of the claims is in Connolly.

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: Financial Statements 2018 (5 Dec 2019)

Alan Kelly: That is fair enough. I went into detail at the last meeting about the real issue, which is the design of the hospital and moving goalposts. That is where the costs are coming in. Anyone who really interrogates this document, particularly the most revealing pages - 26, 27 and 28 - which are about design, will see that. On the previous occasion, Mr. Barry and Mr. Gunning told me that the...
