- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Sector: Discussion (4 Jul 2019)
John McGuinness: That is not true. We invited the industry and we were able to accommodate this meeting today. It is not fair to say the others refused to attend. It was because we could not find a suitable time and date. As can be seen from this morning’s meeting, it takes a considerable length of time to talk to the three companies with us. We will get to the others on a different date.

John McGuinness: Before Ms Muldoon answers, to go back to what Deputy Doherty was talking about earlier, and she might deal with it when replying to Senator Horkan, we were talking about fraud. My understanding of what Ms Muldoon said was that FBD processes the claims, that as it does that, it examines them for the possibilities of fraud, exaggerated cases and so on, and that that represents the 20% figure....

John McGuinness: If the Minister disagrees with the regulator and comes before the House, is that the extent of his or her accountability or must he or she get the sanction of the House? Most of the decisions taken around this issue or issues like it in respect of other legislation in the...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (3 Jul 2019)
John McGuinness: Earlier this morning, the Taoiseach said that his preference was for Irish people to own their own homes and that he supported that. I do not know how he can match that to his complete disregard for the 3,200 family homes that are now being sold to vulture funds by Ulster Bank and the 400 buy-to-let homes also included. These are families that tried to set out to do what the Taoiseach...
