- Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Traveller Accommodation: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Dec 2023)
Eileen Flynn: The Traveller community is like any other. CENA did some work in Labre Park some years ago. Community development work is essential. Sometimes, as with any group, complex situations arise in meeting people's needs. CENA is unique in that it works with the families. This is about future-proofing, to support a family to obtain the accommodation it wants. Having a choice of accommodation...
- Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Traveller Accommodation: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Dec 2023)
Eileen Flynn: It is important to be careful because many, such as my family, would not say Labre Park is a camp. They would say it is a halting site. It is important that people have that.

Eileen Flynn: Even before we had witnesses publicly, we had the discussion about the trailer loan scheme. Language is important. Travellers have slang words. Some people say that a trailer is something that goes on the back of a van or a car, whereas in my life a trailer was a home to many a person. The Deputy has raised an important question that we as a committee need to look at about our language...

Eileen Flynn: I thank Ms Casey. I am sure that members have many questions for Cena. It is very important that the witnesses are before the committee to be able to speak about the solutions. It is very important that the answers are there. We have spoken about this numerous times. The answer is there and it is about the implementation. It is brilliant that members can see this Traveller agency that...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (12 Dec 2023)
Eileen Flynn: Okay. If any Member of this House was to have a stroke or heart attack or collapse right now and they had to go to the accident and emergency department, would they really give a damn about the colour of the person’s skin or what country they come from?
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (12 Dec 2023)
Eileen Flynn: I would love for people to answer that question for me. Keeping it on equality, last week the Cathaoirleach hosted an event around Pride here in Leinster House. I was so proud to be there as a member of the Traveller community and, most importantly, to admire the work of Senator David Norris over the past 30 years in this House and the changes he has made in Irish society. I want to...

- Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Traveller Accommodation: Discussion (Resumed) (7 Dec 2023)
Eileen Flynn: Regarding actions, as we have seen from Deputy Stanton's input and his parliamentary question, it is important that we write to the council and get the information needed. It is great that committee members care so much about the issues. Education is an issue that the committee must focus on in January.

Eileen Flynn: I can kind of answer that question. The recommendation for the Traveller authority around housing came from the expert group in 2019. It is also a recommendation of this committee. For the past 15 to 16 years I have been part of TAPs with the local Traveller accommodation consultative committees. We know better than anyone, Mr. O'Sullivan, that in the entire country, not one of those TAP...
