Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Engagement with the Football Association of Ireland (10 Apr 2019)

Jonathan O'Brien: Let me outline the difficulty I have. Mr. Delaney said in his statement that he issued a personal cheque. If so, I presume it was in his name. We know it did not go into the main bank account because he said it could not. It went into a different bank account. Maybe Mr. Delaney can tell us what bank account it went into. It went into one bank account and the money was transferred to the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Engagement with the Football Association of Ireland (10 Apr 2019)

Jonathan O'Brien: The cheque was written by Mr. Delaney. I presume that, as part of the auditing process, the cheque stub was handed over to the auditors, who would have been aware that there was a loan from Mr. Delaney. I presume the money paid back to Mr. Delaney in June came from the main bank account, so there would be a corresponding cheque stub for the payment to Mr. Delaney. Did the cheque stubs form...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Apr 2019)

Jonathan O'Brien: I think there are serious questions that need to be answered but I am not sure whether this is the committee to get those answers. When the board appeared before us, there were a number of follow-up items which we requested but, to the best of my knowledge, none has come in, though the board sent in one piece of correspondence.

Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 24 - Justice and Equality
(4 Apr 2019)

Jonathan O'Brien: I am a little uncomfortable with the line of questioning. I do not want to stop the Deputy, but a number of serious allegations are being put on the public record without any verification. If that is what Deputy MacSharry wants to do, it should be made clear that he is doing so in an individual capacity and that the committee is not putting them on the record.
