Officials in my Department have confirmed with Student Universal Support Ireland that in the case of the student referred to by the Deputy, his student grant application was appealed to the appeals officer in SUSI. Ruairi Quinn: The person referred to by the Deputy while employed in a primary school was not a qualified teacher. The legislation in place at that time limited membership of the pension scheme to qualified teachers. My Department administers the pension scheme for primary teachers. My Department does not administer the scheme for VECs. This is administered by the individual VEC.
