Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: NAMA Receivers (12 Jun 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: My Department understands that the receiver, appointed by NAMA, in respect of the lands at Poolbeg West SDZ is the legal owner of the lands in question and, like all receivers, is subject to certain legal obligations under the Companies Act in recovering the value of the relevant assets and is therefore entitled to make an appeal to An Bord Pleanála with regard to the planning conditions...

Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Local Authority Staff (12 Jun 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: My Department oversees workforce planning for the local government sector, including the monitoring of local government sector employment levels. To this end, my Department gathers quarterly data on staff numbers in local authorities; however, the data gathered does not provide details in terms of the number of clerks of works employed in each local authority. Accordingly, the information...

Topical Issue Debate: Water Services (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: I thank the Deputy for giving me this opportunity to update the House on the burst which occurred late yesterday evening on a pipeline from the Staleen water treatment plant which serves Drogheda and east Meath. The burst is close to the same location as the burst that happened last year. Staff from Irish Water, the local authority and contractors have been mobilised. Repair crews have...

Topical Issue Debate: Water Services (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: I thank the Deputy for his question. It is one I explored with officials earlier this morning as to whether we could accelerate some of the delivery of this pipeline. The Deputy and I both know the site very well. We know the type of pipe we are talking about. It is a very old asbestos concrete pipe which is particularly weak at the point of the bottom of the hill because of the severe...

Topical Issue Debate: Water Services (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: It is an old pipe. We will try to accelerate that piece of the work and they are looking at that at the moment.

Topical Issue Debate: Water Services (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: This business was brought forward because previous business finished sooner than expected.

Topical Issue Debate: Water Services (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: I live less than an kilometre from an incinerator and it is bigger than any I have ever seen.

Questions on Promised Legislation (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: I thank the Deputy for the question. Irish Water did not cause the mayhem last year, but the company did resolve and fix it. I met the control group this morning. I was notified of this incident almost immediately it happened. Irish Water staff have been working through the night. They have now gotten down to the leak. It is 4 m down in the ground and 20 m from the location where...

Questions on Promised Legislation (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: The Deputy did not hear that last year. That is not true. That is not what she heard last year.

Questions on Promised Legislation (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: The Deputy is misleading the Dáil to say that, because that is not what she heard last year. I was at those meetings. It is not what Deputy Munster heard. The piece of replacement pipe is here. We will be ready to go with it in the coming weeks. It will take a number of months to fully replace the piece of pipe. We are talking about a very old and large piece of concrete...

Questions on Promised Legislation (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: It takes a year. We are talking about several metres in length and a pipe of significant size. The work started with the planning. It needs architectural permission as well because of where it is.

Questions on Promised Legislation (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: I call on Deputy Munster not to try to minimise the significance of what is trying to be achieved here by Irish Water. The company will put in a significant replacement for this piece of pipe through the course of this year. However, until then Irish Water staff are working every hour of the day to get this particular break fixed. I will be updating the House later this evening on the matter.

Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Local Authority Housing Funding (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: A range of housing options are necessary to ensure a supply of accommodation to meet different types of social housing need. Harnessing the off-balance sheet potential of private investment in social housing is an important objective of the Government and the social housing targets set out in Rebuilding Ireland over the period to 2021 reflect the ambition in that regard. Of the 50,000...

Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Housing Adaptation Grant Applications (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: There has been no change in the amount that an applicant under the Housing Adaptation Grants schemes for Older People and People with a Disability can be refunded for engaging the services of a private occupational therapist. I understand that both HSE and private occupational therapists are routinely engaged by local authorities to assess the needs of applicants for grants under the...

Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Approved Housing Bodies (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: It is recognised that Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) make an important contribution in social housing delivery, building on their track record in terms of both housing provision and management. Last year, the AHB sector delivered over 2,000 additional units for social housing use across the country and there is a strong delivery pipeline for 2018. This demonstrates the sector’s...

Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Irish Water (31 May 2018)

Eoghan Murphy: Since 1 January 2014, Irish Water has statutory responsibility for all aspects of water services planning, delivery and operation at national, regional and local levels.  Neither I nor my Department have a role in relation to procurement by Irish Water which is an operational matter for which Irish Water as contracting authority is wholly responsible. I understand that Irish Water has...

The Plan is available at:...
