Mattie McGrath: Coursing involves greyhounds as well.

Mattie McGrath: ----- are being slaughtered by dogs with no muzzles - lurchers or terriers.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse and Greyhound Fund Regulations 2020: Motion (24 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: Yes, but it is all part of the greyhound industry.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse and Greyhound Fund Regulations 2020: Motion (24 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: It is fine to make those decisions but those hares have been looked after in anticipation of coursing with greyhounds. This has been well-monitored by the proper agencies in the way that they should be, and now many Deputies are getting calls about marauding gangs lamping them and killing with them no muzzles and no controls.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse and Greyhound Fund Regulations 2020: Motion (24 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: I will but these are greyhound people, as well, who are involved in coursing.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse and Greyhound Fund Regulations 2020: Motion (24 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: I welcome the funding but animal welfare issues across the board have to be looked at, not only greyhounds but every dog owner and horse owner. Anybody who has them should look after them. However, there is this underbelly going on with the slaughter of these animals by other dogs and there is no talk about it. Then we were forced to release all those hares, who were brought in by the...
- Special Committee on Covid-19 Response Final Report: Motion (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: I am glad to have an opportunity to contribute to this discussion. I begin by thanking Deputy McNamara for doing, from what I saw of the proceedings, an excellent job as Chairman of the Special Committee on Covid-19 Response. I thank Deputies Michael Collins and O'Donoghue from our group for their diligent attendance at, and contribution to, the committee's work. The Minister for Health...
- Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science: Statements (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: I, too, am delighted for the Minister of State. I wish him well in his portfolio. I, too, am astounded that the Minister, Deputy Harris, could not have waited until the end of the debate. Has he gone out to look into the black hole that is the children's hospital site? Some legacy he has in that regard. His absence is totally insulting to Deputies, smaller parties and groups who have...
- Combating Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence: Statements (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: I am delighted to speak in this debate. It is timely that we are discussing this today on International Men's Day. All men should have a sense of shame and abhorrence to see what has happened in recent days with the images that were shared on the Internet on different sites. People can call it coercive control or revenge porn but there are no adjectives to describe it. It is disgusting...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: I too want to raise this issue. It is a runaway train and I am delighted that Deputy Whitmore brought this up. We in the Rural Independents brought a motion in 2016 and another in 2019, when it was not too late. The Tánaiste chose the site for this, against Connolly for Kids, against the sick children and their parents, against the Jack & Jill Children's Foundation and against...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: When Shane Ross was gone.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: I do not know whether the Minister of State is aware that in December 2015, Ireland ratified the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and it was important that we did. Sports are allowed to go ahead in groups and people can practise. Teachers and dancers recognise that the restrictions are necessary to curb the spread of Covid but this is totally...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: The Minister of State is dancing all over the UNESCO convention and he is wrong. A gymnastics school can operate under levels 3 and 4 but we cannot, so there is a discrepancy. I urge the Minister of State to consider the physical, emotional, mental and pedological benefits that dance can bring to young people, and to allow the CLRG and other dance organisations to continue sharing their...

Mattie McGrath: There are a lot of dancers.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: Gymnastics.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: What about levels 3 and 4?
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: 3. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the reason the Irish step dance community has been denied the right to run indoor solo classes following a pod system and adhering to strict social distancing guidelines at levels 3 and 4 in view of the fact that similar and comparable artistic and athletic activities, such as stage school, gymnastics and drama for children, have...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Covid-19 Pandemic (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: Why has the Irish step dancing community been denied the right to run indoor solo classes, following a pod system and adhering to strict guidelines, as other comparable activities and sports have done? I have received 1,208 letters from dance teachers and students. Some of them are very sad. They need to be able to do this activity and we have to protect their right to dance.
- Written Answers — Department of Children and Youth Affairs: Refugee Resettlement Programme (19 Nov 2020)
Mattie McGrath: 256. To ask the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs if the Irish refugee protection programme has continued the resettlement programme under level 5 lockdown and travel restrictions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [37604/20]
