John Brady: I welcome the witnesses and thank both the ILDN and SIPTU for their very insightful opening statements. I agree with everything contained in their opening statements. Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (28 Mar 2019)

John Brady: The Government has said it is disappointed that the homeless figure has exceeded the symbolic number of 10,000. I can use much stronger language than that. In December in Wicklow, 12 beds were opened in...

Select Committee on Social Protection: Estimates for Public Services 2019
Vote 37 - Employment Affairs and Social Protection (Revised)
(27 Mar 2019)

John Brady: I must commend the Minister and the Department on putting the document before us together. It makes this process an awful lot clearer and easier to follow. A lot of the questions I had intended to ask have been covered by my colleagues but I would like some additional information on a number of issues already raised. On the 2012 changes to the pension and the recalculation process, the...

Select Committee on Social Protection: Estimates for Public Services 2019
Vote 37 - Employment Affairs and Social Protection (Revised)
(27 Mar 2019)

John Brady: At least 50,000 have yet to be even reviewed. How long is that process expected to take, in terms of finalising the 24,000 and dealing with the others? Is there a timeframe for dealing with all of that? I ask the Minister to indicate the size of the average payment. She said that 80% of the 8,500 have seen their payment increase. What is the average uplift? I agree with the comments...

Select Committee on Social Protection: Estimates for Public Services 2019
Vote 37 - Employment Affairs and Social Protection (Revised)
(27 Mar 2019)

John Brady: Of the 50,000 some will be straightforward and I expect the payment will be automatic, and some will need to come back and fill in the gaps. It is a question of going through the remaining 50,000 to weed out the ones that might need a little more work and the ones that should be straightforward.
