- Seanad: SI 325 of 2012 - European Union (Quality and Safety of Human Organs Intended for Transplantation) Regulations 2012: Motion (20 Aug 2013)
Martin Conway: It is widely acknowledged and accepted that there is a void in our legislative structure in terms of scrutinising EU legislation. If this debate highlights the importance of organ donation and our poor record in that regard in the past 14 or 15 years, and if it identifies an area within the political and legislative process in which the Seanad can play a useful role, coming back here today...
- Seanad: SI 325 of 2012 - European Union (Quality and Safety of Human Organs Intended for Transplantation) Regulations 2012: Motion (20 Aug 2013)
Martin Conway: It is quite unusual to be here in August. It would be very easy to play politics with Senator Mark Daly on the issue of the recall of the House, but the matter we are discussing today is far more important than that. I suspect that some of the Senator's colleagues in Fianna Fáil are slightly envious of the publicity he has achieved in recent weeks and are wishing they had come up with...
- Seanad: An Bille um an Tríú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Cúirt Achomhairc) 2013: Céim an Choiste agus na Céimeanna a bheidh Fágtha - Thirty-third Amendment of the Constitution (Court of Appeal) Bill 2013: Committee and Remaining Stages (24 Jul 2013)
Martin Conway: I concur with Senator O'Brien. We have had some extremely informative and interesting discussions with the Minister for Justice and Equality. I think he treats the Seanad with utter respect and the forensic detail in his contributions are certainly a lesson to many other Ministers. I wish him an enjoyable summer break, because it is well earned.

Martin Conway: Brevity is the order of the day. That Senator Darragh O'Brien and his party colleagues fully support the legislation indicates that it has been in the pipeline for some time. The working group chaired by the current Chief Justice made significant recommendations. I pay tribute to the previous Government for establishing the working group and setting this process in train. Ireland is out of...
- Seanad: Order of Business (24 Jul 2013)
Martin Conway: For the first time I wish to commend SUSI, the centralised third level grants organisation. In recent days I received a call from somebody in SUSI inviting me to the facility. This invitation is open to all Oireachtas Members who wish to see the new streaming system which has been put in place for the upcoming academic term. Let us hope the young people of Ireland in need of third level...
- Seanad: Order of Business (24 Jul 2013)
Martin Conway: I hope the fine weather has not finished and we will have a few more weeks of it. I wish everyone a very nice holiday, and I suggest those holidaying at home could not pick anywhere better to go than County Clare.
- Seanad: Order of Business (23 Jul 2013)
Martin Conway: Following up on the point Senator Daly raised, there is good deal of merit in having a Minister of State with responsibility for the Irish overseas. I support the call for a debate not only on the Irish overseas but more specifically on the undocumented Irish in the United States and on what is happening in that respect. There are many positive developments but we have seen many false...

- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Jul 2013)
Martin Conway: I welcome my friend and colleague, Senator Naughton, to the House. She will be a fantastic addition to Seanad Éireann. She is a recent mayor of Galway city, a city that is thriving and extremely successful. If she can bring her experience as a former mayor of that city to this House, she will do a great number of years’ service to Seanad Éireann. It is fantastic to see...
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Jul 2013)
Martin Conway: I welcomed the news yesterday that we are to have a recruitment campaign in the autumn to encourage people to join An Garda Síochána. Some 27,000 people have already expressed an interest in becoming a member of the force. I welcome the announcement by the Minister for Justice and Equality, Deputy Shatter, that he has got the consent of the Minister for Public Expenditure and...
