Martin Conway: This has been going on since 1997. Senator Daly's party was in Government for 14 years and did nothing about it.

Martin Conway: The Cathaoirleach should give him some latitude.
- Seanad: Services for People with Disabilities: Motion (25 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: I move amendment No. 1: To delete all words after “Seanad Eireann” and substitute the following: “recognises the Government's commitment to ensuring that the quality of life of people with disabilities is enhanced and that resources are prioritised for the people who need them; notes that the Government spends approximately €4.8 billion on disability services and...

- Seanad: Order of Business (25 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: This morning the Federation of Irish Sport organised an extremely interesting briefing on the benefits of sport to society, job creation, leisure and health, etc. During the course of the briefing it emerged that Croke Park has just been landed with a rates bill in the region of €1.5 million more than would have been paid last year. We all know Croke Park and the indelible position...
- Seanad: Houses of the Oireachtas (Inquiries, Privileges and Procedures) Act (Commencement) Order 2013: Statements (24 Sep 2013)

- Seanad: Houses of the Oireachtas (Inquiries, Privileges and Procedures) Act (Commencement) Order 2013: Statements (24 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: I welcome most of what Senator Byrne has said. However, I refute the charge of political advantage suggested. It is clear the Irish public wants an inquiry, but one that is cost effective and conducted properly by people who are elected and well capable of conducting it. We all spoke on this legislation when it was going through the House and welcomed it as an important step in the right...
- Seanad: Order of Business (24 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: I very much regret the breaking news that there will be no criminal complaint by the Central Bank against those who participated in the so-called Anglo tapes. We can all remember the revulsion a number of weeks ago when details emerged of the internal telephone conversations between senior management in Anglo Irish Bank.
- Seanad: Order of Business (24 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: It is most regrettable that the Central Bank has announced today that there will be no criminal investigation.

- Seanad: Directive of European Parliament on Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children: Statements (19 Sep 2013)

- Seanad: Directive of European Parliament on Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children: Statements (19 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: I know Senator Leyden is good, but he is not that good.
- Seanad: Directive of European Parliament on Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children: Statements (19 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I have known him for more than 20 years when we soldiered together in a younger organisation.
- Seanad: Directive of European Parliament on Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children: Statements (19 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: Absolutely. It is great to see his meteoric rise in politics from being in this Chamber a few years ago to being in Government. It is well deserved and well earned. He left the corporate world to pursue a career in politics and the public service, and that deserves to be recognised. His contribution as Minister of State has been well noted. His views on the future of the House will be...
- Seanad: Junior Cycle Reform: Motion (18 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I am trying to remember when he was here last, but when he is here he makes very useful contributions. Even though he is the Minister of State with responsibility for innovation and technology, he also realises the importance of history. We do not know who we are unless we know where we came from and what our history is. As a nation, we have a...
- Seanad: Order of Business (18 Sep 2013)
Martin Conway: Who could disagree with the comments of Senator Ó Murchú who always speaks with a certain passion and true Irishness in the House which has been the hallmark of his very illustrious career in Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann as well as in Seanad Éireann? One of the most important pieces of information conveyed during this afternoon's Order of Business has come from...
- Seanad: SI 325 of 2012 - European Union (Quality and Safety of Human Organs Intended for Transplantation) Regulations 2012: Motion (20 Aug 2013)
Martin Conway: The current Taoiseach.
- Seanad: SI 325 of 2012 - European Union (Quality and Safety of Human Organs Intended for Transplantation) Regulations 2012: Motion (20 Aug 2013)
Martin Conway: It is widely acknowledged and accepted that there is a void in our legislative structure in terms of scrutinising EU legislation. If this debate highlights the importance of organ donation and our poor record in that regard in the past 14 or 15 years, and if it identifies an area within the political and legislative process in which the Seanad can play a useful role, coming back here today...
- Seanad: SI 325 of 2012 - European Union (Quality and Safety of Human Organs Intended for Transplantation) Regulations 2012: Motion (20 Aug 2013)
Martin Conway: It is quite unusual to be here in August. It would be very easy to play politics with Senator Mark Daly on the issue of the recall of the House, but the matter we are discussing today is far more important than that. I suspect that some of the Senator's colleagues in Fianna Fáil are slightly envious of the publicity he has achieved in recent weeks and are wishing they had come up with...
- Seanad: An Bille um an Tríú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Cúirt Achomhairc) 2013: Céim an Choiste agus na Céimeanna a bheidh Fágtha - Thirty-third Amendment of the Constitution (Court of Appeal) Bill 2013: Committee and Remaining Stages (24 Jul 2013)
Martin Conway: I concur with Senator O'Brien. We have had some extremely informative and interesting discussions with the Minister for Justice and Equality. I think he treats the Seanad with utter respect and the forensic detail in his contributions are certainly a lesson to many other Ministers. I wish him an enjoyable summer break, because it is well earned.
