Radiological Protection (Amendment) Bill 2018: Second Stage (27 Feb 2018)

James Lawless: Fianna Fáil will support the Bill which is a common-sense and prudent safety measure and an important step in strengthening Ireland's protection against nuclear and radiological threats. Fianna Fáil has always been opposed to any form of nuclear development within Ireland and is conscious of the threat from nuclear developments in other places and the possibility that it may...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Update on Preparations for Brexit: Discussion (27 Feb 2018)

James Lawless: I thank the delegates for their evidence and observations which have been useful. I have a couple of questions and it is probably better to ask them together to let the delegates answer them in whatever order they wish. My first question has been touched on. I was interested to hear about vouchers. If I heard correctly, a €5,000 voucher is being prepared under Enterprise...

Project Ireland 2040: Statements (Resumed) (22 Feb 2018)

James Lawless: I listened with interest to Deputy Bailey's speech. There have been a number of speeches in the House on this issue over the last number of days. I thought that Deputy Bailey gave a fine speech. She spoke about evidence-based policy and detailed consultations. I would love it if that were the case. It was certainly well argued and well intentioned and I would support it, were it not for...

Questions on Promised Legislation (22 Feb 2018)

James Lawless: The Government's programme on innovation, Innovation 2020, commits to a target of 2.5% GDP spending on research and development this year. Topical Issue Debate: Schools Building Projects Status (21 Feb 2018)

James Lawless: This is another school-related issue. St. Joseph's primary school in Kilcock dates from the 1950s. It was the first new national school in the town for some time. When the school was built, the population was 1,000 but it is now almost 6,500. However, the school buildings are unchanged from that time. I would like to give credit to the many parents who have contacted me in recent weeks....

Topical Issue Debate: Schools Building Projects Status (21 Feb 2018)

James Lawless: I thank the Minister. I welcome the timeline and that there will be confirmation by the end of next week because the school authorities are in limbo at the moment. James Lawless: I come to the Chamber as living proof of the failures in the transport system, as someone who came into politics through public transport campaigns and who still commutes daily into the city centre from north Kildare, specifically Sallins.
